[Brighton] Do We Really Need a New Glenn Murray?

Fortunately there's some competence in Brighton, fairly sure they can find a player equal to Haller (and 7 times better than Joelinton) for £20m.

Given we already have Maupay (£14m) who has scored more than Haller (7 goals) and Joelinton (2 goals) put together, I'd certainly wager in our favour on that one!

We definitely need a new striker...but then we've said this every off-season for what feels like yonks.

Whether we need a direct replacement for Murray remains to be seen...we don't play to the strengths of a player like Glenn, but it's definitely a good option to have should we need someone to 'go long' to, or hold the ball up - in that regard, there's few better than Glenn.
They'd need to be aware that if they are a Glenn replacement, they may be spending some time on the sidelines waiting for a chance or a scenario to appear.

Why would we need to 'go long' with a Murray type player? Some nice centres pinged across at speed following good build-up play would do fine.

We need the ability to break quickly on the counter, a striker who offers something different can help with converting chances. Imagine if we had someone who could convert 5/6 headers per season that could mean a few more wins.

If I remember correctly a young Bobby Zamora arrived a couple of decades ago and proved he could run, pass, hold up the ball, head and shoot (even score a penalty) someone just like him is exactly what I would want. I'd be very open to a younger version than the 25 year old being suggested

It's unrealistic for us to find someone who ticks all these boxes within the budget we have, we may get 3 or 4 of the above. so we have to work out which is less important to us.

Personally, a bit of a s***, I wouldn't mind too much. Also if they aren't any good in the air, you can get around that by keeping it on the ground. (Also plenty of short strikers have scored a few few headers just with a bit of movement). If they have no pace, there's no tactical adjustment you can make to negate the downsides

I'd be going for similar to Maupay and Connolly and build our next season around, pace, movement and balls in behind.

On the basis that Potter doesn’t play the old one then the answer is no. However, I do like his kind but there seems to be a lack of tall, developing strikers around. If Murray has another year on his contract they could do with getting hold of one he can help develop.
