Do we need a new party to reflect the working people of Britain?

As I get older I get more dispirited with the political parties in this country. I will never support the Conservative Party because I find its underlying philosophy too self centred, as long as that self is a privileged one. I despair of the people who vote for these "toffs" in the sad belief that if they vote for them they are one of them, a deferential vote. I am a Labour Party leaning voter, but the Labour Party is now a papier mache version of the left I would like. I admit to voting LibDem last time, in the belief that my local LibDem actually meant that a vote for him was a vote to keep the Tories out - only to find I'd voted for the Tories a couple of days later. Needless to say, I hope these unprincipled barstewards get tanked at the next election, never to be heard of again.

I've read on here that the next election is Labours to lose, and I believe they will manage that comfortably. If that happens and the LibDems deservedly disappear back into single figures, it may well open the door for more of the lamentable Tories and bubblebrain Dave ( what a joy it must have been for the Russians, to be told by this dunderhead that Britain had saved Europe from fascism ! ).

So, does the left need a new political party ? Possibly, though it could try to bring the Labour Party back to what remains of its roots, and start representing the people who might support it if it would only realise that politics is not a self serving career designed to get rewards for opportunistic MP's, but a career of service for the people of this country.

Yes, I'll shut up.

OOO,.. yes, I cant wait for a return to the labour roots of the 70's, those halcyon days of permanent strikes, 3 day weeks, power failures, piles of rubbish uncollected in the streets, secondary picketing,..... bring it on.

So, boiling all your comments down to and understandable nugget, I conclude that the Conservatives are the only party staying always true to their original ideals, whilst the Libs and the Labs of this world simply adjust and shift their ideals depending on whatever the fad of the day is at any given time in an attempt to win the popular vote...... :lolol:

I never mentioned the Conservatives purely because they're not the ones being fractured. Yes, they have internal splits but they're no way as near as public as Labour and the Liberal Democrats. It is quite clear the Conservatives have adapted over time, from Thatcher to Cameron, there has been a huge change but fundamentally saying the same thing. They're not adjusting clauses in their constitution to cater to everyone like Blair did. However, the Conservatives have largely remained the same over the past decade. They haven't had any large policy shifts unlike the Libs and Labs.

Labour's still trying to find an identity, Libs' identity has been questioned.

I think the Labour party roots went back a touch earlier than the 1970s, to a time when it fought to stop the halcyon days of people being killed or maimed in coal mines, factories and mills.

Sadly, self interest (capitalist policy) is much more uniting than altruism, especially as it frequently masks a didactically blinkered self-importance.

The right can all unite behind the fact they all want to look out for themselves whereas the left will always be split by the varying degrees by which they want to look out for others

Labour need to rebrand, and get a new leader. That'd send one HELL of a message, and would give them a cats chance in hell of taking the next election. Right now Milliband is too feeble and not at all bulshy enough to connect with traditional Labour voters that are feeling apathetic. They need to grab a strong leftie message by the bollocks and take the fight to the Tories. What's happening now is bad for Labour, bad for politics and bad for the country.

Surely it's libertarians that are under-represented, rather than left-wingers? Don't see any more parties helping until we have proportional representation anyway.

Will we ever return to the days when the NHS wasn't run by the bureaucrats , accountants and multi-layer management ? Will we ever return to the days when the Railways and Utility companies wasn't run by greed fuelled owners whose only interest is returning a decent dividend to their shareholders instead of providing a decent service to their customers ?

there's already plenty of protest and special interest parties to left of Labour, so does a UKIP of the left mean a centre left party? isnt that what Blair was going for?

im quite interested in how the Labour members/supporters think its going for Labour and Miliband at the moment. with the leader and financial backers in open warfare, seems to me the Labour party are on the edge of an existential crisis: without union support, does the Labour party actually have a purpose anymore? its admirable that Miliband wants to encourage direct membership, but he knows conversion rate is very poor, so will lose massive amounts of income when they are already in debt. just where is the shortfall going to come from? he's gone at it the wrong way, should have built up the membership then fight the unions, shirley?

as it is, and back to topic, i can see the unions just dropping Labour and restarting their own party. they'd take a rump of the incumbant seats with them i reckon.

I hate to say this but I always find David Davis speaks sense, and I think he calls himself a libertarian? not that I have heard much apart from his sound bites.

I think the left are quite organised but tend to do protesting on an issue by issue basis.

Of course, but if you read what I wrote,... I was specifically talking about those wonderful Wilson years in the 70's, part of the Labour roots,... they were great, you should have tried it.

...and in the process, split the left vote even further, leaving the Conservatives a free run for a generation or more.

On the noggin. No right wing leaning people give a crap about anyone but themselves and all lefties are altruists.

Utter shit. The right think about British people first but only the loony left call it racist. The loony left Labour party ****ed this country up like they always do. Diane Abbott banging on about needing more immigrants and saying in 2010 that cant white people be sacked before black people. Rasist piece of fat butch bitch.

If a white person had said the same they'd be sacked on the spot. Working class? Labour are for the poor where the poor get more money than the hard working man. Party for the working, yeah ok.
