Do we need a defender in before Newcastle?

We struggled defensively away to Reading and you want to throw untried kids in away to Newcastle ? Really?

I'm talking about long term, yeah I know the question is about Newcastle away and yes I think we need some experience bought in, but if we're going down the route of the Academy the youngsters are going to have to be blooded at some stage.

I take your point but for me in games like this we need as much experience as possible, so whilst we, probably, will have a debutant RB I don't think the next game is the time to gamble at LB as well.

Debutant RB? Oh, you must mean Saltor............

A question: CH has said that we're after a CB, and there's debate on here about it. We currently have three senior CBs (Uwe, Dunk and Goldson), we also currently have three senior full-backs (Bruno, Bong, Liam).
So, finally, here's the question: why isn't CH talking about another full-back? We aren't we talking about it?
I can entirely get that we could go into a season with seven senior defenders if there's sufficient flexibility in their positional play. Is it that CH might plan to use Goldson as cover at right-back (where he's played previously at Shrewsbury)?

I guess he is looking at someone like Ridgewell who could cover both positions, that would deal with the issue we have number wise in both areas.

Hughton has already said we need another CB. Ignore anyone who says otherwise. 3 first team CB's is not enough in this league
Exactly. When the manager is saying we need an additional CB then that's enough for me. Whether we get one is the key issue really.

CH has been saying that we need an additional CB for ages so would think that the search and selection is very advanced. Did he not say it would be near then end of the window, if we got one?

Ssshhh! Perhaps even CH doesn't want the discussion about how many left backs are needed to start up again!

That's what CH said when he was talking about signing a full back.
Duffy for example has experience playing right back.
However right now a CB coming in would play there and Bruno would revert to right back.
Worth noting that the biggest threat from Newcastle is likely to be pace rather than height.

Need to change Dunk, Stockdale and Skalack and Hughton needs to stop rotating 5-6 players every game. He's starting to piss me off.

What more convincing do people need that we require another experienced centre back? The idea that a club with title aspirations would be happy chucking a kid straight into the most difficult away game of the season is just bizarre. This isn't Football Manager. But setting aside the Rosenior scenario, we saw today anyway why Bruno is not a centre-back. Too easy to beat in the air and it almost cost us a couple of times. Better teams will be more ruthless. He admits himself he's not physically imposing enough for that position (even though on the whole he's done a really good job) and Hughton's convinced we need 1 more. The message is pretty clear - we need one more.
