Do we actually need an England manager?

How about we have a small group of TV pundits to select the squad, then a couple of days before each game, the FA post the squad on their website and we all select our team and captain and whoever gets the most votes in each position gets to play!

might stop a vast majority of the nation playing england manager though and demanding that the current incumbant goes despite the fact it is plainly obvious that the team isnt good enough

In recent years, it doesn't matter who the manager is, they all seem to make the same mistakes and refuse to drop under performing "star" players.

Maybe there should be a committee who selects players like before WWII?

I would win us the World Cup if I was in charge - vote HP Seagull!

I have a challenger. The only way to solve this is to have a duel using wet fish whilst wearing clowns costumes on the pier. Choosing an england manager in this way couldn't result in any worse performance than last night.

Wouldn't make any real difference the players out there are the ones most people would select.

In what sense is it not good enough?

We have Chelseas best player, Man Uniteds best player, Liverpools best player (arguably).

We have probably the best left back in the world. We have Terry who captain Chelsea to the double this year.

We failed to beat USA and Algeria. They had lots of lower league players in their teams, with the few premiership players in their team as their stand out players.

Our team may not be as strong as Spains, but the problem is certainly not the individual talent of the players.
