In that case we might as well say "f*** it" and throw in the towel............Stop looking in the past......it's the future that matters. We have a massive catchment area and if we were in a decent stadium we would attract a lot more supporters.A lot of people won't go to Withdean as the facilities are so shite, and to be honest, i don't blame them.I hate the place.
Yes, I agree it is a massive catchment area, always has been, so where has all the support been going. In 1964/65 div.4 we had an average crowd of 18000. Since then the only time we have big crowds is for big games, how are we going to get people want to watch us not the opposition. A nice new stadium would encourage people to go for a while out of curiosity, but once the novelty has worn off you will be back down to the true football supporters. Like you I also hate the Withdean, but unlike you I don't think this is a good excuse to not support the team, what do you go to a game for, a prawn sandwich in an executive box or watch a game of football and support your team.

We are NOT a big club. Our natural position is top half of the third tier (average finishing position in the league since the 1958 reorganisation equates to 6th in League One, a position currently held by Barnsley) and we are currently playing above that.

As for deserving Championship football ... our battles might make us think we deserve better, but we are about right, I reckon, flitting between Champioship and League One. And no club deserves anything - success or failure.

[ One problem we have at the moment is not being able to pay on the gate, I think yesterdays crowd would have been larger if that had been possible, albeit Saints fans turning up on spec and going in the home areas of the ground.

I believe there will be no pay on the gate at Withdean sadly

Looking from the outside in it seems that because of Brighton's decade in the wilderness so to speak the kids in and around the area will be following the big clubs ie Man Ure, Arsenal etc because a) Its the fashionable thing to do and b) Kids in the main dont want the shit ripped out of them by their mates so they are sheep and will follow the "winning team" for want of better words. Brighton are not a big enough draw for the local kids and unfortunately until something happens on the Stadium front it will stay that way and even then it will be extremely difficult to attract the local support, because by then the new breed will be onto the next big thing.

Amazing as it sounds coming from a Palace fan Brighton's plight saddens me because as has been proved this season the games between the two clubs are fantastic and the rivalry is second to none in my opinion. Fans of both clubs need us to be playing each other more regularly that is for sure.
