I think poyet is great but comments like that are just stupid and get up fans noses like pardew did to us.

Possibly. Rather Martin O'Neill myself. Didn't Brooking say the "has to be English" thing was bollocks?

Personally, I would always say he should be English. It's ENGLAND, and surely the point of International football is to pit teh best of one country against another, and I think that should extend to the manager.

However, if that isn't what we stick to then, yes, Martin O'Neill would be fantastic. Or David Moyes.

Not actually being a twat (although you can be the judge of that) do you think that should extend to the ENTIRE staff of England FC? (i.e. including the physio?)

OK, I'm being a twat.

No, and as with ascertaining someones nationality, all of this is full of grey areas, so you just go on gut feel of whether something is right or wrong. Personally, the only member of staff we make a big fuss about the appointment of. is the manager, and my logic says we make a fuss about the manager because he's the only one who is truly influential over the level of success of the team. Below that, a goalkeeping coach, or a fitness coach is neither here nor there.

It's started well for him but I just know it's not long before it all goes tits up and the Geordie faithful are baying for his blood. Enjoy it while it lasts Alan

There are suggestions that the person who deserves the credit at Newcastle is Graham Carr, who I think is the chief scout. He's the one who spotted most of the players they've signed (the ones nobody had really heard of before they pitched up in Newcastle). Pardew just gives the nod.

Can't be doing that badly, but I still think he's a bit David Brent for my liking. Though he does appear to have mellowed a little over the years, not so many press statements that line him up for ridicule at least.

Graham Carr is the man who looks abroad for players it seems, he is responsible for Tiote, Ben Arfa and Cabaye being at the club. We have someone else who looks for players in Britain, not too sure who. Pardew seems to be responsible for Ba signing (probably only signed him because he was free) and Obertan signing as well.

He is a good manager, I think tactically he is quite good really and despite a couple of daft tactical decisions he seems to do his home work and like his statistics a lot. He seems to be very focussed on keeping things tight, our wingers for example are expected to track back just as much as they get forward. I think in terms of strengthening our defence and making us look more solid as a unit he has to be given a lot of credit, although going forward we don't seem to have a plan B which is very concerning, particularly with Ba going to play for Senegal in the African Cup of Nations! His reluctance to give Ben Arfa a chance in the team is also very, very frustrating, I don't know what he sees in Obertan but there are 50 odd thousand people at SJP who don't see the same, he is absolutely awful yet gets in the team ahead of Ben Arfa who has looked good in flashes and clearly needs a run in the team.

So yeah, he isn't a great manager by any means, he seems quite stubborn and doesn't like to gamble and go all out in fear that we will be caught out at the back i.e the West Brom game. He does deserve a lot of credit for where we are in the league, 33 points at this stage is excellent and if we had any kind of depth in defence and up front it'd be interesting to see where we would be!

I agree that he wasn't given the job on merit. Chris Hughton's sacking was very confusing and harsh as owt, although I think Pardew is probably the better manager and things have worked out very well despite the worry and the anger when he was appointed. Onwards and upwards I hope, a few new players to give us an extra option in defence and up front and we will be okay providing there are no more shock exits, which sadly wouldn't surprise me.

On the face of it, you have to give credit where it's due. Some managers fit well with certain clubs and some don't. He is clearly not bad at his job, just a wanker as a human being, who cant keep his cock in his pants. He wont have that problem at Newcastle though, can't imagine the Newcastle players birds would want to shag Pardew, when he is less famous and paid less than their own partners.

But Norwich weren't the best team in the Championship last season - QPR won it ???

The only black marks against his character, as far as I'm aware are as follows:

1. Comments he made after the Reading game

2. He was allegedly shagging one of the players wives at Stains which sowed dressing room discord which resulted in poor team performances which resulted in him getting sacked which resulted in the rise of Adkins to take the credit for the team he had assembled

Otherwise a good manager.

Erm..... I recall he was repeatedly making suggestions about buying Zamora and some other players of ours, while we were beating Reading to the top of the table.
It was a shitty tactic, let's face it.

However, as a manager for his particular club, he's done rather well and it's certainly hard to knock his achievements with NUFC

No - because people disliked him before he managed Southampton. Shouldn't you know that? Him becoming Saints manager was one of the sparks behind this small rivalry we have now.

Yeh I was, just a piss poor attempt at :fishing:

I have always rated Pardew. I would have been quite happy for him to be our manager when he was in the frame a few years ago.

For some reason people on here think he is a shit manager. I don't get it. for me he is one of the best, young British managers around.

What is everyone's opinion now ?

Never thought Pardew was shit to be honest

Not the Brighton type of Manager. Gus is the only one.

Pardew is too ordinary and boring.

I haven't seen or heard anything about those comments. But as a neutral saying the team that finished 2nd weren't the best team, if that is what he said, is not quite the same as the manager of the team in 2nd saying they WERE the best team, is it?

Usually it all goes tits-up for him around the 18- 24 months time so there still plenty of time left on the clock.

When he came to the Valley he waqs welcomed like the prodigal son. We were looking v poor in the Premier and he could not save us from relegation. To most observers, including me, this was not his fault. We looked to rebuild in the Championship-but we did not.
Pardew oversaw saw of the worst CAFC performances I have ever seen in the Championship, made really poor signings and was tactically naive.
There were widespread demonstrations after we lost 1-5 at the Valley against Sheff Utd and he was sacked taking a hefty payoff that we could not afford.
He then bemoaned the situation at the Valley and blamed the board, finance etc and took no responsibility himself.
Apart from that he was brill ;-)

Ps Bobby Z put in a good shift at the Cottage yesterday in our 4-0 defeat....no-one has scored 4 against us since....oh.......you lot!!
