Do I really need to buy a train ticket london rd to falmer return?

I made this journey for the Southampton friendly, and bought a return ticket. Needless to say, it wasn't checked in either direction. My guess would be that it will be the same tonight.

I think the £3.40 extends all the way out to Lewes, which is a bit more reasonable in my opinion. It is daft that it's all one fair zone, but there's loads of University students making the trip to Falmer, so I suspect it can be a bit of a cash cow. My London Road to Falmer weekly ticket is £16(ish), so £3.20 a day, which still isn't great.

Train fare from Shoreham is £4.60 and back. Tickets checked at Brighton.

All more reasonable IMHO than a standard single fare on B&H buses which is a hefty £2.40.

Cycling say 14 mph allowing for traffic and it might be quicker to get home.

I think it's cheaper than the bus as afaik there's no such thing as 'off peak' for bus travel, they charge the same high price all day. I await correction from a buswanker.

Assuming you mean London Road station, then if you're cycling from Shoreham you wouldn't need to go anywhere near any uphills tho shirley? Shoreham to Brighton via the seafront = flat. Brighton to Falmer via Lewes Road is flat also. And if you mean London Road the street, as opposed to the station, then, um, that too is flat. In act you're looking at flatflatflat all evening, including, doubtless, the team's performance.

No, sorry, I meant it isn't noticeably uphill from London Road to Falmer. I can cycle it gently in 15 or walk in 45 minutes. Bit of a hill on the way back though, up to Fiveways.

The train companies aren't burdened by FFP and they make massive profits while ripping us all off. **** 'em. Besides if they were that fussed, they would be employing more staff to deal with it.

Just out of interest - I assume therefore you're happy to wander in to M & S or Sainsbury's (massive profits, not burdened by FFP etc), grab a sandwich and a coke and walk out without paying? It's exactly the same. The amount of guards who get verbally or physically abused by morons who think it's their right to travel without a ticket is obscene. You may think it's worth the risk but please don't attempt to justify it.

If certain companies didn't take the piss out of their customers then I'm sure less people would be less inclined to consider it. I bet a few of the people posting about how morally wrong it is have happily downloaded music and films for free off the net or parked somewhere they shouldn't have without paying etc and thought nothing of it.
