As you do......

It was pretty exciting. We were staggering around the tents as usual trying to find the cans with beer still in them and dryish matches when this spotlight came shining throught the hedge closely followed by a very scared fox and mad farmers on a jeep with rifles shooting at it. The bullets were whizzing across the field thudding into trees and soil sending us diving for cover. Judging by the state of the farmers they were either very excited or on mushrooms. Still, they invited back to stay this year 'cos it "pisses off the New Age Communists on the Local Council and that wanker who owns the proper camp site".

Went to a scout camp years ago on the IOW. Can't for the life of me remember the name of the site though. Seem to remember it was somewhere near Black Gang Chine though.

Black gang Chine was in the sea the last time I went to the Isle of White

There is an excellent camp site near freshawtaer bay right on the coast. It has various animals (llamas, goats, water buffalo, horses, rabbits, chickens, etc.) and a good childrens playground. Faccilities are good with a shop, washing, showers etc. It also has its own small bay and is not too far from blackgang chine. My children (3 & 7 years) loved it.

Its not this one, but next door http://www.chine-farm.co.uk/facilities.html

I'd go to Glastonbury if

I was guaranteed not to:

have anyone knicking my stuff
attempting to sell me drugs
it didn't rain and get me all muddy

!!

If you're going for a biggun' I'd recommend a Geodesic tent, much stronger in rough weather should you get any and harder to nick.

I have a rather large one!! Its got rooms and all - I like to call it my mansion  I can put dirty things in one room and keep the other room (my boudouir) clean!! Its even tall enough to stand up in!!

Gonna need a bigger one though, Dave and wouldn't mind one of my own.

Thanks for the offer though, much appreciated.

Tents at Glastonbury are gay.
I can guarantee you sunshine this year. I can feel it in my waters.

I hope so, anyone know any decent camping shops online.

I wouldn't have liked to be without a tent last year.

Not quite IOW but Ashurst (New Forest) is good - Fullers pub, curry house and a nice restaurant just outside, which saves all that cooking rubbish.

Yep, I can certainly recommend the curry. They do a takeaway service, too, and always seem to chuck in a few freebies. The site's even got a train station, from which I've commuted a couple of times, leaving the wife and kids behind!

I'm AMAZED that nobody has posted a picture of Charles Hawtrey on this thread so far.

Or Barbara Windsor, or Kenneth Williams.
