The parking meters are in and the 'resident permit' signs, although currently covered, have been erected. Never the easiest place to park at the best of times and it certainly takes a lot of overspill parking from surrounding streets, which I'm guessing are also soon to be metered.

I find this pretty lousy.

The council did a *COUGH* 'consultancy' of their plans, the result of which was that the plans weren't popular and they said they would review their plans.

A year later, presuming people wouldn't have had the stomach for a fight, in go the parking bays and meters.

The DroveWAY is next. The residents of Elrington Road have erected little wooden stakes to stop people parking on the grass verges.

on average i spend £15-20 a week on parking permits just to do my job.
add that to the 3-4 parking tickets i get each week for parking in resident only spaces..when they are BOTH sides of the street (more especially in hove).

Grand Avenue, Hove last Sunday we mistakenly parked just one bay the wrong side of the dividing line between metered parking and residents parking, the signs for which are tiny and the bays being no differently marked to make an obvious distinction between the two. Paid at the machine and came back to a parking ticket, the cars around us all having been ticketed as well. Talk about a licence to print money, yes I know it was our fault for not checking the signs, but with so many people getting ticketed it is obvious the council need to do something (they won't because it's too profitable) to make it more obvious. At the very least the bastards can do is take the £3 we paid for our parking ticket off the £70 fine, which we have suggested in our letter challenging the ticket.

I got a ticket for doing this at the bottom of Grand Avenue a couple of years ago and appealled.

The magistrate that heard the appeal lived nearby and went and took photos of the signage before the hearing. Two, yes two, council lackies turn up and argue that the signs are obvious. The magistrate pulled out her photos and said "rubbish" and went on to destroy the councils case. I bearly had to say anything. In her summing up she told the council that they needed to review all their signage in the area. They obviously haven't !!!!

Appeal - make sure you go and take some photos of the signs. Also make sure you ask for a personal hearing NOT a decision in writing.

Be warned - you'll get some very bullying letters from the council just keep following the instructions for appealling !!!!
