you should be able to get a good deal on florida disneyland if you book early enough?

'Early enough' for Orlando this August would have been many, many months ago. To book now you could well be looking at over £1000 per person for a direct Virgin flight. Indirect, changing in some US city, would still cost c£700 each.

Hotel prices don't really change with time though, neither do theme park tickets.

Family of 4 to Orlando in August for 14 nights in a good hotel with direct flights - probably £5,000 to book now. You'll probably do another £1500 on park tickets, and you'll still need to eat and buy soft toys.

We booked a while back (November 2009) and around around £5K for two weeks in a three bedroomed villa for 4.

Yet to buy theme park tickets but another £900

I can write about WDW and Orlando forever and am happy to give any pointers to help people get the most out of their holiday, particularly first-timers as it can be daunting.

Lots on this thread for example - Disneyworld Florida - North Stand Chat

Beachy - if I were you I'd book a night in a Universal hotel (my favourite is the Hard Rock) and use it to get 2 days Front of the Line (FOTL) passes in the 2 Universal parks - it will make a MASSIVE difference to your enjoyment of those parks. Just take an overnight bag from your villa, leaving the rest of the stuff there.

Giving Universal a miss this time as going back next year to do the Potter ride and Mantra at Sea World although seems like a whale mis-behaved there recently.

If the kids are old enough (7+) try Puy Du Fou in the Vendee region. Minds will be blown by it (including the grown ups), second most popular theme park in France after Disney apparently and not a white knuckle ride in sight.

I can confirm that Puy Du Fou is indeed absolutely bloody BRILLIANT !!!

Thanks to the sound advice from NP and a few others on here, we ( family with 4 young kids ) had a fantastic time in the Vendee region last September. I must confess that our 5 year old didn't get as much out of the theme parks as the older ones though. As THPP says - very young kids will always be happy with just a beach or a swimming pool on tap

We also travelled out to Futuroscope for the day too, and that was absolutely amazing as well. You could easily spend a whole weekend there and still not get bored.
