I agree! I thought it was quite funny. However, if you get carted off for climbing over the advertising you should have no compliants.

And don't you <-(should be "use") the excuse, it was the surge forward that made me do it.

I think you're getting a bit confused. Chutneystirrer was not arrested, I was. I am also not making excuses, if I wasn't right at the front I wouldn't have gone over the gate. Also I wasn't waving money at the ref, nor was anybody on the pitch.

I hope that clears it up.

Round up all the racists in this country, and see what colour they are. I acknowledge that there are factions of racism the other way, but I'd stand by my assertion that the bulk of it is directed by white people against black/asian.

Depends where you live.

Lived just outside of Bradford for a couple of years (1999-2001) and there was equal racism, white on asian, and asian on white. Also the asians ****** hated the blacks, and one another (Indian vs Pakistiani)

Where do you draw the line Easy? I've stated earlier on this thread that I don't agree with racist chants and have never done it. However this saturday I will sing anti northern songs with drunken glee. What do you feel about this type of taunting?

Nope. I know it was you that got carted off. CS was commenting on the bloke who was waving money. I was then answering him by explaining my point.

i.e. don't complain if you step over the adverts etc.

you were making excuses as you were the one that said it was the surge forward that made you step over the adverts.

I think its fair game to be honest. I've joined in with the tongue-in-cheek "you dirty northern bastards" meself - and I'm originally from Hull !

Its a grey area. People doing the chanting may have different agenda's and degree's of "malice" which they intend to get across. For some its a laugh, for others its real hatred. Equally, some people on the receiving end may be overly sensitive, or not give a toss. Its horses for courses.

My own general, personal guideline is that I won't chant against ethnic minorities. But I will join in with chants about northerners. And I've also joined in with the "town full of pikeys" stuff. Does that make me a hypocrite ? Probably. All I can say is, I don't mean any of it with any real malice, and I draw the line at abusing coloured people.

Agreed that if you climb OVER (although a severve crush would excuse you, surely?), not so sure of the legal position if you climb on the hoarding and then get pulled over by stewards/OB.... My original point was that by pulling Timbo out of the stand instead of making him get back into the stand made the situation worse.

If regards to the bloke waving the money - I didn't think he was over the hoarding, merely standing on his seat.

Lenny henry takes the mick about his mum and the rest of the Jamaican community but if a white comedian did it there may be a different response from the audience.Likewise what would be the outcome if a ``Straight comedian`` starting taking the piss out of gays.Maureen lipman used to do a very funny line in ``jewish Mum`` gags but I doubt if a gentile would get a positive feedback from that style of comedy.

On a slightly different tack I remember Richard Gere`s responce to the question of ``Are you gay`` being to totally blank the questionee, later stating that to answer the question would imply that he considered it wrong to be gay by denying the press claims.Very few homosexuals consider it wrong to be gay so I doubt if many Indians would consider the so called chant that offensive working on the same reasoning.

Now if you were Welsh, now that would be different.............;)

I was near those who started singing " Small town in Dehli" and from where I was standing there was a different tone to the earlier and in my opinion much more effective, "Small town in watford" chants. I'll make no apologies for finding it offensive. What was worrying was when a large number of Albion fans starting singing it. The fact they shut up pretty soon after that says it all. Most realised it went beyond the usual chants and taunts and only the small number who started it all carried on singing it periodically. ( When they weren't trying to invade the pitch )

If it was meant as a joke, I didn't laugh and niether did many, many others. Personally, I thought it was racist as it used colour to extenuate difference.

Not a good night all round and Tooting, even the curry later was below the usual high standards we've come to expect from the curry house of Dreams.

I was absolutely appaled by the behaviour of some of the so-called fans for some of the chants, comments and the now infamous over the hoardings behaviour. I even waited until the end and the majority of the crowd has dispersed, to apologise to some of the stewards for the behaviour of some of the people in the crowd.

Behaviour like last night and you can kiss Falmer goodbye, what a f***ing stupid time to behave in the way some fans did.

I was on the front row and sadly poor refereeing decisions incense trouble and one steward totally "larged" it threatening to take on everyone which therefore fans the flames so to speak.

Racialist comments - didn't here one all night and do not approve either.

There was one Asian steward who was totally OK and I spoke to him through most of the game as did my lad, his mate and my mate.

At the end I held up Superphil's Falmer banner and a lady police person wished us all the best for a proper stadium - I reminded her we hoipe it won't be like LTFC.

I was barged over by a policeman at halftime mind you he was gunning for Krispies who was threatening to climb on the roof

For the record I don't actually find the 'small town in Dehli' reference offensive. It's more tounge-in-cheek than anything. 'Town full of Pakis' uses direct racist language and is well out of order. The only people that should be offended by the Dehli references are residents of Dehli itself (can't imagine there were many there last night). Having been to both towns I can catergorically state that Luton is far more of a shit hole.

It's the same with the chants we get. 'Town full of faggots' is wrong as it uses offensive language. However, I tend more to raise a wry smile to 'Does your boyfriend know you're here?'.

That might make me sound slightly hypocritical but that's the way I see it. Anyone who disagrees is a ****.*

Agree with that completely but can see how some people perceive it to be racist.
I didn't sing it but I did raise a smile when it was sung.

Sorry, but I cannot even believe this thread has started, let alone run to five pages :nono:

We are giving far too much airtime to this sort of thing. I am not condoning racism, but as someone else said earlier (sorry can't be bothered to check back now as to who it was), we do need to lighten up and chill out a bit with regards to this.

At the end of the day there are racially motivated events happening, and they are wrong. As far as comments which are "close to the knuckle" are concerned, if people generally were less sensitive and just got on with their lives, racism would die out naturally. The reason racism is still alive is because people keep making a big deal of things which really don't deserve the airtime!
