I am starting this process today and looking for email and calendar provider alternatives to Google.

Any suggestions?

X and Insta will also go today.

Facebook is going to take a bit longer.

Any other suggestions for this?

Bluesky is an adequate replacement for X.

I did use Thunderbird email as an alternative to Apple mail or gmail for a longtime.

Yeah i like Bluesky for sharing photos.

Isn't thunderbird just the email client?

I am looking at Nextcloud and riseup for email.

Nextcloud has other stuff like calendar and storage too.

I posted this list elsewhere, but it may be useful here too.

Oh, and to add, I am not anti-American.

Meanwhile, a degree of commercial disengagement that is firmly linked to Trumposkepticism is perfectly reasonable.

Just as America boycotting nations with unfair trade tariffs is perfectly reasonable.
As is America expecting her allies to pay a fair slice towards 'western' defense.

And out of the churn will realignment emerge.

I think there is a myth developing about Blue Sky. To me it is another version of Twitter but without the right wing political elements. I went on there and then wondered why I was bothering. It's just as toxic and full of rants and raves. Okay, it may not be as toxic, but I doubt it will be too long.

The question I asked is whether it adds anything wholesome to my life. It doesn't. So i deleted it.

Facebook I have only missed a little. I took off all the details of folk I know and requested contact details from those I wanted to keep from Messenger. But for the most part I am now forgetting about it. It's a bit like giving up smoking really. I'm through the nicotine craving bit and just dealing with what was habit.

I am not anti-American in the slightest, I hope that my actions are not coming across as such.

I am anti-billionaire, anti-oligarch and anti-Trump and it is these that I am trying to disentangle myself from. Amongst all this.

The best thing about Bluesky is that you can flick across from the 'discover' tab to one of your chosen ones. This (so far) filters out all the shit that you don't want to see. So far I have found people mostly both respectful and 'people'.

For me in the same way Facebook would be okay with the option to remove all the "suggested posts' and associated goons.
