Weird. You've repeatedly disparaged an Israeli boycott on here.
Unilateral gesture politics some time ago? Certainly.
I have had to put up with people in my (former) repeatedly advocating total boycott of Israel for years.
It is the only nation anyone has ever called for a boycott about.
Never China.
Never Russia.
Never Iran
Never North Korea.

And funnily enough one person who has repeatedly proposed a boycott by my former union is a lecturer in Palestinian Studies.
A person of Palestinian heritage.
No personal axe to grind whatsoever, of that I have been assured.

Their last proposal was voted through a few years ago (before the latest madness)
By 24 votes to 5
By a union with over 1000 local members.
I resigned.

There has been far too much pissing about with proposed boycotts.
Bibi couldn't give a tuppenny damn about boycotts by a college union.
Or even a single nation.

I suppose you could argue that Hamas attacked Israel because the Brits failed to boycott Israel.
But that would be truly weird

I am however keen on practicable solutions.
I'm looking forward to hearing about them.
There are none on the table presently as far as I can see.
We have: turning Gaza into a golf course, on the one hand,
and purging the jews "from the river to the sea" on the other.
I'm not inclined to take sides with any protagonist who has genocide as their agenda.

Israel will need to rid itself of Bibi and his extremist backers,
and the Palestinians will need to rid themselves of Hamas
before anything of any substance emerges.
And neither appear to be imminent.
So standby for further tomfoolery, misery and death.

Just re-reading your comment, you are suggesting that my approval of some disengagement from reliance on American goods is 'weird'
because I have disparaged a boycott of Israel.

Why is that weird?

Edit: there is a big difference from avoiding American produce, and harrassing British companies who have any connection with Israel,
harassing British academic staff who have any collaborators in Israeli academics,
blocking publication of any research emanating from Israel,
not employing Jewish researchers (yes, all Jews are 'complicit'),
harassing anyone who has ever bought a Jaffa cake,
and so on.
(this is what 'Boycotting Israel' means round here)

Because you'd previously claimed to have sympathies with people proposing BDS but said it was futile and mocked this approach of your union and brother. However a boycott of America is 'perfectly reasonable'. Can you not see the contradiction?

Different sort of boycott, as explained.

I like sugar in coffee but not tea. Contradiction?

I switched from OneDrive to pCloud a couple of weeks ago. I've been impressed with it so far.

I'd like to switch from gmail but I think that will take a long time to achieve.
If you want to buy pCloud lifetime access, they discount it heavily around twice a year. Usually for valentine's day they offer it half price - and again half price in November for Black Friday. Wait until then and you can get it substantially cheaper.

Yes, I was looking into the lifetime membership but wanted to give it a try first. Also, assess whether I want to upgrade from 500GB to 2TB

One more German product I like is Tado home heating controls and thermostats. There are other UK alternatives as well, i think, so you could go more local.

And one more thing: Meaco dehumidifiers and fans are superb in my experience. And they are a UK company.
I bought one on recommendation of NSC.
Recently I bought a second for downstairs.
They are brilliant.

I've done the same - 70%done (any fund with a visible amount (,>1%) of Tesla and Space X went two weeks ago. This week I've got rid of funds with the big tech companies front and centre.
Others are taking more time and research,e.g. Global index funds. Mostly the proceeds will be moved to European and British funds.
It sounds grand but it's a few thousand - I'm happier though.

I’ve done the same, quite a few of my tracker funds were with Vanguard (US based) - I’ve switched to equivalent ‘passive’ funds with UK managers.

Chrome was replaced by Fire but that wasn't working right on my phone. So I am trialing Vivaldi, working okay so far and defaults to Ecosia, which is nice.

Whrn it comes to the tech majors I think it would be fair to say Microsoft is the best of a bad bunch.

Anything Bezos or Musk is off the table for me

Yeah, i have moved our emails to outlook, not thrilled about it but it seems like the best option for what we want.
