I seem to remember a barbers shop off Portland Road that always has a collection to browse through whilst waiting to get your haircut

Anyone else miss the buzz of going into a newsagents and studying the top shelf like a kid in a sweet shop for gorgeous blondes with big boobs whilst looking out for other customers coming in and, heaven forbid, a mate or a girl from work you fancied?

I'd wait until 7pm, it always seemed dark, make my visit to pick up two jazz mags - making small talk with the top Asian fella that ran his business for years, then he'd put them into a blue plastic bag for me. Enjoyed smoking a joint of a mate's home grown weed on the walk home and excitedly studying the top talent before a couple of tugs. Those were the days. :)

Whatever happened to Danny Seagull?

You are talking about the barbershop at the top of Hogarth Road, Hove
It was full of porno's
I think there may also have been a couple of pictures on the wall with minges out
Really small pokey little shop and was always rammed
Used to hate having my haircut same as today and was dragged there on a regular basis by my old man who loved getting his haircut
So long ago but I think used to be called Len's Barbers run by an old boy and his even older assistant
Always good banter in there but used to hate it as I am deaf in one ear and can't hear jackshit in situations like that
The porno's made up for that though and probably why my old fashioned Dad loved going there

Yes
My parents were members there from the early 1970s until 2000. Therefore me and my brother were brought along until we decided we’d rather do something else or were old enough to stay at home etc

It was totally family oriented and not at all seedy until the original owners sold up in 2003/4... but I know plenty of people struggle to get their heads round that!

And from September til May, frankly, it was too bloody cold to walk around naked. :)

Incidentally, the best thing it did for me, was make me totally body-confident. I’ve never been afraid of how people might view me physically, as I saw all kinds of body shapes and sizes, so it took away any fear of what I looked like!

That’s the place !

In the late 80s I remember finding a few mags or torn out pages in the bushes and woods near home, haven't seen one in a hedgerow for a long long time!

A few years later when I was 15 (late 90s) I got a job at a large local convenience store, the magazine section alone was about 4/5 metres long from floor to ceiling, so it had a well stocked top shelf selection. I was the tallest employee so once a week I had the job of putting out the new arrivals and taking the old unsold mags off the shelf. I had to load them into a trolley and take them out the back, where they had to be counted up, recorded on a sheet and bundled up to be collected by WHSmith News. Obviously this process took hours, so I'd be sat in the corner of the stockroom quietly and diligently going about my task whilst flicking through each of them for quality control purposes (all whilst being paid by the hour, happy days!).

Swindon, but used to be Manila
already in steep decline, it would appear as though COVID-19 has had a terrible effect on the fortunes of the beleaguered tug mag market, with 2020 sales showing huge declines...

AmexRuislip will single handedly reverse the decline.

I can see why they asked for help...

... It's at least a three-hand job, that!

Porn in hedgerows was part of growing up in the 70's.

The funniest thing that i have read in ages...

Growing up in the 80's my lasting memory of porno mags was when the pages had looked like that they had all been pulled out and were all stuffed in hedges... Victoria Park (Worthing) was a classic place for it. Happy days
