This. I should think they are slightly off putting for the players too, especially if the boards are showing porn.

When we went to the Amex before the start of last season for the 1901 open day the ground was complete, but there were no advertising hoardings, and it looked magnificent. Likewise for the SSC final.

It was quite a suprise to turn up for the Doncaster game and see all the new hoardings everywhere.

God, move with the times. Oh,I want that guy with the board on his shoulder walking round the pitch at h/f time back though.

Yeah! What about the old alphabetical board that was used in conjunction with the back of the programme to allow you to know the half time scores ( or is that to what you refer ) and bring back the marching brass band at half time ,or was it pre- match? Digital advertising makes us look like the Big Boys don't you think...seems like the way to go to me.

I never understood when we went to our "viewing day" why there were so many bloody stewards...no wonder we are losing money, we must be paying a fortune to them. Even in that picture there are loads of them...WHY?

I've seen them at live games a few times now, not often with Albion, but a few England games. I find them distracting for fifteen minutes and then the football takes over.
Given a choice of having them or not having them I would go for the latter, but I guess again it's the way clubs are going. I wonder if local advertising will inevitably drop off once these are permanently in place because they will fade even more into the background.

I was genuinely surprised we didn't have them when we first moved to the Amex. Can't say I have an issue with them at all - I've been to grounds where they're installed and haven't found them at all distracting, personally.

It's only a trial, but they are only really good in the Premier League - Wolves are an example as most of the ads on there were about themselves.

I actually think the digital advertising looks better, more 'modern' befitting a stadium like ours. The old fashioned boards just look a bit 1970's. Is this one of Barber's revenue raising ideas?

I was speaking with the clubs commercial department this morning, and asked about them. The FA requested/required they be there as the game is on telly, they foot the bill, and pay us a decent sum for it too. Also, there should be a combination of national (FA) sponsors as well as some of our own sponsors shown on them.

Oh, and ticket sales for tomorrow are in excess of last years match v Newcastle.

The eyesore argument is fairly lame because the current hoardings are oh so chocolate box pretty.

The distraction argument is more valid. They don't bother me personally but I can see how they could hack people off.

If the game is good enough you won't look at them.

isnt there also a rule that if you get into the champions league ( yes I know) the first 4 rows in a stadium near these advertising boards have to be left empty so they are visible with no distractions?

It's a UEFA rule that you cant have fans within a certain distance of the touchline for European games, 4 or 5 metres I think. Some older stadia like Old Trafford and Anfield have seats that are less than this distance and therefore cannot sell seats in the front rows depending on the distance from the touchline. Arsenal's stadium is OK as is the Amex, in fact the Amex meets all UEFA guidelines.

Blimey, a way for the club to get more money in and people are moaning about it? FFS, do you spend all game worrying about the existing static boards? I couldn't care less about them, the only one that I've ever found annoying is one they use in the Champions League where a car appears to drive along the touchline.

All of you Luddites can sod off and sit in the East Stand, then you won't have to look at them. Me, I'll just enjoy the game and be grateful that the club are getting some money into the coffers that's not being raised from my pocket.

During the Donny game I had a little day dream about these things and imagined a seagull flying across them starting really slowly and getting quicker nearer kick off. No idea why I remember this because I was almost too drunk to get into the ground.

Don't thinkm its that, I think it more the point we are watching football, and when you are following a ball around a field , you wonder "was that a bit of football genuis that pass" or "was that just the sign changing" not against modernation the electric board are just distracting, if you were watching a good film would it bother you if you had "coca cola" bouncing across the bottom of the screen?? Yes it probabily piss you off
