No, he is a cheat. I really do not understand the 'hand of god' thing (I refuse to write it with a capital G), he cheated, simple as.

Can't see how that is any more cheating than diving for a pen or pulling down a striker clear on goal etc etc. He just broke the rules as happens many times in a game but the ref didn't see it so he got away with it. Time to move on

I don't get this cheating business: 99% of English players would punch the ball in the net if they thought they could get away with it. And is deliberate handball any worse than the diving that Owen and Gerrard are renowned for: I really don't see why one's all right and the other isn't.

Maradona was a fantastic player - best in my lifetime - and is a completely barking headcase of a manager. I'd much rather have a looney-tunes manager than one who speaks in platitudes and cliches all the time. I like him

I like him.

His comments on Platini were top drawer, something along the lines of "he's French and they're always right and everyone else wrong aren't they". Oh and he doesn't like Pele, which to be fair is also justifiable seeing as Pele is a media whore these days who spends his time telling everyone their team is going to win the world cup. If Pele was in Scotland, he'd probably tell the Daily Record that Scotland were going to win it.

Pele might be a **** but he`s not that big a **** to say that that useless bunch of kilt wearing tossers could ever win it :lolol::lolol::lolol:

Maradona is just above Myra Hindley for me but still below Shipman and Pol Pot IMHO

He's entertaining I'll give you that. Also possibly the greatest drug addicted, cheating, fat midget ever to win the world cup.

I think it's best not to get too carried away, comparing him to murderers, mass murderers and genocidal absolute dictators my be ramping the vitriol a tad too far.

Suffice to say Dwayne Chambers = drug cheat forever. Marradona, ditto... he is overdue for another heart attack anyway so it should not be an issue for much longer.

Yes, but the little *unt done it against US didn't he? and in my mind that means that we should take the little greasy wanker with his soul glo hair and give him our own 'hand of god', slapped all over his fat, garlicky chops

The best player to have ever graced a football pitch, ffs it was the ref that allowed the goal, not Maradona. His goal that followed was pure genius, plus hes banged loads of chang, banged loads of whores, and almost killed himself on fried food, and now he's back at the World Cup and the best thing in it so far.

How can you not like the man?

The bloke's a twat. We can all agree on that, surely. Look at him for God's sake. He's like a cross between Shalamar and a bullfrog.

And he pretends he's some sort of socialist hero. Nah...f*** him, he's a twat.

Greatest footballer ever. Maybe. Whatever, he was f***ing amazing. I'm over that game personally. Hated him for a while but much prefer watching his amazing footballing skills and laughing at his eccentricity.
I doubt he'd ever mention the hand of god incident again if the press here didn't bang ON AND ON it at any opportunity.

They don't practise it in training though, do they? Bernd Schuster said after the 86 quarter-final that Maradona practised that exact move with a keeper while they were teammates at Barcelona. He also followed it up by going to a later World Cup off his tits on banned substances - again, I don't think the English players are quite there yet.

And kudos to the posthumous red card comment from Sydney earlier in the thread - that made me spit out my metaphorical cornflakes laughing.
