The question that must be asked, assuming this story is right (ha, ha) is 'What are their intentions?'

What are the terms which come with their offer to invest? If the first thing is to turn the club upside down, then no thanks. If their first intention is to sack the current manager, then they could invest the money now, and do just that - they don't need to wait for the Falmer decision for that.

Still, they haven't approached the club yet, so I will calm down first.

They do not want to invest now as they risk investing in a team that could easily go under if we get a "no" verdict. Does seem strange but Maradonna has a huge amount of respect and pulling power the world over ( although has got a few rather bad habits from all accounts ). What it would give us is the chance of getting the likes of Riquelme, Batistuta etc when they are boys and earning a fortune when they mature. I guess that we would have very strong links with Maradonna's team of Boca Juniors as I believe he is still involved with them. It is going to be a case of wait and see but this is good news for the Albion in that there are people with a lot of financil backing interested in us if we get Falmer.

I gather the connection is through a member of Turienzo's family (his dad?) which was cemented through the Ardiles UK football link.

Don't know how wealthy Ossie is, but Marradona is extremely rich (provided he has not blown it all on powder and hospital treatment!)

Get Maradona involved and the club will be in the grip of Argie mafia / other dodgy deals from the off. Avoid like the plague, I say.

A grand piece of pre-Falmer publicity, constructed by putting a few vague and unrelated platitudes with no substance together into a splash Max Clifford would be proud of. Gets the club, investment and Falmer nicely into the public eye as the decision nears.

Look, I've just done my own:

TV millionaire Jamie Oliver could be coming to Brighton and Hove Albion.

The wealthy celebrity chef could be interested in investing if the Seagulls get permission for a stadium at Falmer.

Oliver is keen to be involved in the running of something that makes him money.

Albion have been identified by Delia Smith – another chef with footballing interests – as an ideal candidate, providing the move to Falmer receives Government approval later this month.

Smith, speaking from her home in Norwich, revealed: "Anything could happen. Brighton are a great club and I hope they get their new stadium.

"Jamie is a good friend of mine."

Albion chairman Dick Knight dismissed as "total nonsense" suggestions that Oliver's four year old daughter Poppy Honey is about to replace Mark McGhee as manager.

There has been no contact so far between the club and Oliver, although Knight admitted: "I believe it is distinctly probable that all sorts of people who have had successful careers, like Oliver, would be interested in Albion when we get our stadium."

Oliver, 33, made his name as a fat-lipped big-tongued mockney chef, poncing about on his scooter and bish-boshing fresh herbs into his pukka cornflakes. He's estimated to be worth £30m, and is looking for fresh ideas now 15, his restaurant staffed by chavvy oiks serving ironic 'bangers and mash' for £30 a pop, has fulfilled its potential.

The Seagulls are still waiting to hear whether they will be allowed to build a stadium at Falmer. Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott has promised an answer by the end of the month.

Martin Perry, Albion's chief executive, said: "If anybody as a result of the decision wishes to invest in the club, we would clearly be happy to talk to them.

"We would expect those discussions to take place in a professional and confidential manner.

"All they have to do is contact us and we will talk to them, because we are going to be seeking additional investment once the decision is made."

the funniest thing about this is if you read the argus report, nowhere does it say that Maradonna has been spoken to by anyone......let alone Ardiles

This is one huge Argus wind up

Exactly, they knocked back Fozzie and his health club mate, cos they would only let investors in,who had the right intentions.
Maradona has only contempt for us English, what would his intentions be for us?

It's a non-story I reckon but a good one for us I believe. One of the nimby arguments is where are we going to get the money to pay for it. By splashing a story on the front page about possible investors in the wake of a yes decision it completely knocks the legs off one of their arguments.

Two things could emerge from this:

1. Other wealthy investors attention will be drawn to the possibility of buying BHA.

2. Another League club may follow up the story and ask Ardilles to become involved as a result of it.

The third thing of course is that it could be genuine.

Note for Naylor
How does maradonna get into this "story" - no quote, not mentioned by anyone else except YOU - all there is is a quote from Ardiles saying he's enjoying the sun in Spain - Well F@@@K me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! May I suggest you actually check a story's based in FACT before getting no quotes and non-denials of nothing

Maradona eyes up Albion
by Andy Naylor

World Cup football legends Diego Maradona and Ossie Ardiles could be coming to Brighton and Hove Albion.

The wealthy Argentinian duo are interested in investing if the Seagulls get permission for a stadium at Falmer.

Maradona and Ardiles are keen to be involved in the running of an English club with potential.

Albion have been identified by Steve Perryman and Paul Miller - two English-based former team-mates of Ardiles at Tottenham - as an ideal candidate, providing the move to Falmer receives Government approval later this month.

Ardiles, speaking from his home in Spain, revealed: "It is a possibility. We will have to see what happens. I cannot say much at the moment. I've finished with football in Japan. I am living in Spain, enjoying the sun and we will see what happens.

"I am open to everything. It would be great to come back to English football."

Albion chairman Dick Knight dismissed as "total nonsense" suggestions that Ardiles is about to replace Mark McGhee as manager.

There has been no contact so far between the club and Ardiles, although Knight admitted: "I believe it is distinctly probable that all sorts of people who have had successful careers, like Ardiles, would be interested in Albion when we get our stadium."

Ardiles, 53, was sacked by Japanese League team Tokyo Verdy 1969 in July. He has also managed in England with Spurs, Blackburn, Swindon, Newcastle and West Brom, as well as France, Mexico, Croatia, Saudi Arabia and Argentina.

As a player, he won the World Cup with Argentina in 1978 and the FA Cup in successive years with Spurs.

Maradona, now 45, was widely recognised as the greatest player of his generation.

He is best remembered for his controversial 'Hand of God' goal against England which helped Argentina win the 1986 World Cup.

Harsh... but fair.

It must be a publicity stunt, but a bloody good one.
