I commute daily between Worthing and chi, they use those poxy three carriage noddy trains mainly on that route, and there is NEVER a seat, and on the rare instance there is, it's always next to a mental case. A few weeks ago, we had the goodwood knobs every day for a week, and every night I nearly had an embolism!!!

It's pretty much a given that any longtime commuter is psychologically disturbed. They're plugged into the rail network and everything else in their lives becomes secondary. See them come off the trains in Sussex marching at twice the speed of anybody who spent the day in Sussex. Its a form of mental illness. It's lovely when you stop. Commuting is more stressful than work for most people. IMHO, like.

I agree with this. I know we are all different but I cannot spend 2 hours of my day either on a train or in a car.

I know a 90 yr old + lady that does that as well. Your mum is not called Jose by any chance?

Guilty ;-)
As a family, we have realised over the years, that she is known, and loved by thousands of people!... old school lady.

As a seasoned commuter, you get to know the location of tunnels and areas where there are no mobile signals. I really enjoy seeing the frustration of people involved in loud, meaningless conversations when they get cut off. Best thing is that you know pretty much exactly when it will happen

I commuted for five years from the Kent coast to the West End (2 hours plus each way) and it nearly killed me. I don't know how people do it their whole working lives.

Am I the only one finding amusement in the fact that some of the more twattish posters (based on this thread) put themselves through this hell every day?

And people claiming poverty with a brand new digital SLR in their bag can **** right off.

Wow. Can't believe things like that actually amuse people enough that they feel the need to share. You should be embarrassed. Your life had no meaning.

What is your opinion on the current German train drivers strike and the hours of delay and chaos is causing ?

Striking is fine. It seems justified so I have no issue with it. It was only for 3 hours anyway. It's rank incompetence, services which are not run primarily for the public coupled with enormous prices I have an issue with. Neither really affect me here.

I know. Imagine people finding small observations that amuse them in their day to day life. I'm pretty sure it's never happened before.

After 11 years of commuting hell, i'm a few days from being 3 months free of it and it's the most liberating feeling. No sneezes in the face, no tutting, no freaks making conversation with you, no delays, no smelly food... my life is almost completely ******** free now although I do miss the eye candy and the sixty year old lady who used to give me a biscuit occasionally.

Mind you, watching people try and make calls while going through a tunnel is just hilarious

I have witnessed a slightly obnoxious american saying are 'you there' about 20 times repeatedly all the way through the Mersthem tunnel which I did find quite amusing especially when he rang back and suggested the other person may have lost their signal.
