Did you go to the 1983 cup final/replay?

Went to the first final as a Man U fan with the rest of my (brighton supporting) family. As soon as Smith scored, it became fairly obvious who my No. 1 team was going to be from then on (or so my Dad tells me, was a bit young to remember it all)

OK, it was a disappointment not to win, but shooting himself would have been a bit drastic!

I realised what I had said after I'd typed it! Couldn't be bothered correcting it. Am I alone in thinking Robinson had a better angle for the shot or is it just one of those distortions from my view of the game. I'm pretty sure I had the same view as the TV camersa (ie we were shooting towards the left hand goal).

Alright, in '83 I was at a boarding school in the Midlands.
There was a 'television room' and the game was on. How many BHA fans do you reckon there were? Two. Me with my scarf on & my mate who was really a Derby fan but supported us for the day.
There was this big Nigerian c*nt, Rotimi Onajobi. I can still see his face when Man U went 2 -1 up, he came up to me laughing his big African laugh so close to my face I could smell his breath.
I remember watching the helicopter on telly & thinking "I hope it doesn't crash" & in them days there was the big telly build-up with It's A Knockout & stuff. All the celebs & pundits thought Man U would win it or it would be a draw.
One more memory, I got a kicking from a Sheff Wed fan after the semi.

Went to both, and all the rounds except the Newcastle replay. I will hate Man Utd for the rest of my life.
The highlight of the whole cup run was the fifth round away win at Anfield. Fantastic match, incredible atmosphere, thousands of us outsinging the cop. Jimmy Cases wonder goal. We were hanging on by a thread in the end. I was on a high for days afterwards. Magic, my favourite Albion memory.

Couldn't get a ticket for the final:angry: But got in for the replay which involved queuing up at The Goldstone (RIP). Think I was in the first 6 in the line and got myself on telly grinning like a chesire cat.

I went to every game apart from Newcatle away & the final.

A Man U fan nicked my commemorative flag & spongy hand after the replay.

Bastard! I was only 14.

Went to all the games except Newcastle replay.

The final was a great day out,and an experience I dont think that will ever happen again in my lifetime.
The replay was just a drunken blur as we realised we had our best chance on the Sturday.

Spent all morning waitng in a que for our replay tickets,
And Im going to sound a real sad git now but....................

I still have the 83 flag pinned up in my kids bedroom and all the Argus Cup Final/Replay papers in a box in my bedroom, along with all the Hereford stuff.

Also anyone remember the bowler hats??

And the parade thru Brighton and Hove in the open topped bus??

I went to both. Made the front page of the Swindon local paper when I took a local seagull fan to the replay after he appealed for a ticket. He had painted the outside of his house blue and white!!

Saturday was a great day, the replay was an ante-climax.

:D :D :D

Every round except the Newcastle replay - my mate got punched after the Liverpool match as we left the ground (broke his nose I think).
We called into a Palace pub on the way home from Anfield (we felt the need to update them as Sunday matches weren't on the TV in those days).

I remember that the Man U fans hadn't seen "big sponge hands" before and several of them wanted to see the one that my mates son was wearing as we left the first final - and they were friendly. "You missed your cahance there today - we'll stuff you in the replay".

Stood behind the goal for the final but I went into Hospital between the two Wembley Matches to have a knee op, so had to sit for the replay. Gordon McQueen sliced a clearance into the stand that hit me in the face (happy days).

and I still say that Robinson should have gone it alone and scored the winning goal..........:D
