I lost mine :censored:

Must get a new one. Lost it in a stupid way, fell asleep on the train with my wallet on the table in front of me... guess what happened

Happy New Year. :D

Bastards. I did something similar. Fell asleep, jumped off the train at my stop without picking up my jacket. Got that back and the wallet as well, but £50 lighter.

Are they able to replace them? Still pretty good if you had to buy another. I think it covers the cost with just four trips down to the south coast.

Yeah, haven't got round to queuing up for one, filling in the form and pissing everyone off behind me yet.

FFS! It's the WEATHER! Sometimes it's colder, wetter, hotter, dryer than you think it's going to be.

And some clubs have massive ££££ incentives to get the game on, like live TV coverage.

A game was postponed. Get over it. It's not going to ruin our season.

Well, absolutely. As mentioned elsewhere, it was the coldest Brighton night for 15 years...

Think the problem with Withdean is that the frost doesn't lift during the day due to the trees, it being low-level, angle of the sun etc. .

Is correct. It was lovely in the centre of town at 12.00, but MUCH colder at Withdean at 1pm.

Nothing wrong with postponing the game, just wished the ref had made his mind up earlier and saved me the £20 train fare.

I was at the ticket office at 11.00 and the club had just had a call from the ref who was stuck in traffic on the M23 and late for the first pitch inspection, scheduled for 11.30.

It wouldn't have made a huge difference though, as when he did inspect it just before 12 he pronounced it ON, subject to another look at 1pm.

The problem as I understand it, is that the pitch kept 're-freezing', and the ref could have no confidence that even if it was okay at 3pm, it would remain playable for the next two hours.

My round trip for the game was 140 miles, so I was as disappointed as anyone, but I suspect the ref really had no choice.

Those wishing to blame the groundstaff, should remember that how many postponements there have ben in all the years we've been at Withdean. [Is is TWO?].

This would have been Withdean-on-sea then

At least the game would have been called off sooner.

A few things annoyed me.

Saying the game was definitely on even though the ref was planning a second pitch inspection an hour later.

The fact the pitch next to the Waterhall park and ride (near the roundabout) was deemed playable even though I doubt it had the luxury of thousands of pounds worth of protective equipment.

Lack of information on the club website in the morning regarding inspections etc.

The fact the club have said Falmer will not have undersoil heating.

With all due respect, you're being a bit of a dick about this.

And as for your question to Insider;

Undersoil heating at Falmer

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Will the club be rethinking its decision to not include undersoil heating at Falmer in the wake of a second game called off at Withdean due to frost in the last year or so?

..you could have equally put 'the last TEN years or so', which reads a little differently.

I also thought the "first" game that was cancelled at Withdean (vs Gillingham last season) was called off because the spectator areas, specifically the South Stand, were icy and considered dangerous? Nothing to do with the pitch condition.

Hopefully Falmer will have under-seat heating then

its pointless & very expensive, at Falmer the pitch will be more enclosed and hidden from the elements as to that of Withdean. Sheets & Heat Blowers are the new thing, imagine a large Bubble covering the pitch with blowers...kinda like a Hot Air Balloon! much cheaper and healthier for the grass than undersoil heating.

I don't see why. The club is always a bit slow getting information out. Most people rely on The Argus or NSC for the breaking news. Not really good enough for a professional football club.

The fact the game was 'definitely' on and then randomly off is also a bit rubbish. Obviously the decision was that of the ref, but the club could have mentioned the second pitch inspection etc. For fans who had to travel it would have been handy knowing there was another inspection due. I am sure a few Northampton fans would rather have known so they could have checked and turned back at London rather than having to waste the second leg of their journey. The same goes for Brighton fans travelling a distance. I think you said yourself you had a round trip of 160 miles. I myself travelled about 100 miles in total round trip. Had I know a second inspection was due of course I would still have headed over, but I would also have had Southern Counties etc on around 1pm instead of my i-Pod.

And as for undersoil heating at Falmer. I just don't understand why a state of the art stadium would not have it. The club must lose money when games are called off like this.

Firstly, maybe the Ref did'nt inform the club of a 2nd decision so cant really blame the club if that was the case. Secondly see my post above regarding your final point!

The ref pronounced the game 'ON' after the first inspection. I don't know what statements were put out by the club, to be fair, but certainly the staff in the ticket office [and thus me as I was stood next to them] knew there was a second inspection at 1pm, which at that time they thought would be okay too.

I would have thought that most people would rely on SCR for late news, rather than the internet.

Yeah fair enough about the covers etc. I don't know enough about what is fashionable in terms of frost provension!

My main point though is that the club could keep fans better informed and that people shouldn't really have to rely on NSC or The Argus - both of which are full of rumour and counter-rumour.

For example, did the club send out club texts letting people know about both inspections etc?

I also cannot believe for one second that the club and the ref were not in constand dialogue about inspections / the state of the pitch etc. To suggest the club did not know about a second inspection is clutching at straws...

I would have thought that most people would rely on SCR for late news, rather than the internet.

Agreed. But having been told the game was definitely on after the noon inspection, how many people were listening in to Southern Counties to check at 1.15pm?

well either way its abit pointless banging on and on about it, it happened and IF the club were at fault in some whay I'm sure they've had their monday morning meeting now to clear any confusion up in the future. BUT the blatant fact that the Ref called it On at 12 then Off at 1 is the main argument as to Why!?!

Exactly.

God knows there are enough genuine things to moan about at the moment, without falling into the trap of moaning about everything, however unnavoidable..
