[Albion] Did RDZ just secretly confirm Mitoma not going anywhere in the summer?

Naylor says no.

No movement on a new contract at present.

Boo.

Let’s face it. Player and manager contracts are hardly worth the paper they’re written on anyway. Doesn’t matter how long or lucrative a players contract is if another club bowl along offering gazillions, the player will go.
Exactly, they'll be in the colours of Arsenal (Mitoma) and Spurs (Roberto) respectively in time for their pre-season tours to Asia.

:)

If that was true, Moises Caicedo would be at Arsenal by now.

Obviously there is a perception that players hold all the cards in these situations, but at well run football clubs that isn't actually the case - it's very much a two way street.

We're Brighton fans, we're lucky enough to support arguably the best run football club in the world. We should know this by now I think.

True, but a club of our stature has to face up to the reality that, for all the hot air and soundbites, any BHA player of top quality will always be looking to move on from us.

But, that doesn’t mean contracts are worthless, quite the opposite, contracts are incredibly valuable to the running of the football club.

It’s ever been thus that players will look to move on, that will never change, but we have a far greater strength of hand than we’ve ever had, and many more players are looking to move to us than away.

Either way, even if it doesn't practically mean a contract extension right away, I think RDZ simply wanted to convey it as a nice verbal confirmation from the player that he'll be there next year, a good thing to tell to fans and to a kid who loves Mitoma. Obviously verba volant, and circumstances can change, but it was still a nice sprinkle of optimism and sense of unity for the public.
