Missed my street, but a lot got Albion Hill, Richmond Street and Sussex Street it seems.
I went to the Knoll School for young gentleman along Old Shoreham road...had no idea a string of bombs just missed the school....would have thought they would have mentioned it.....maybe they did.....when I was at school there during history or something, but I dont remember it ever being mentioned.
Ties in nicely with what I was told as a kid that a bomb was dropped on the corner of Amherst Crescent, very close to our family home next to the tunnel.
Thanks for that - very interesting
Shows that Brighton came out of the war relatively unscathed, especially as it was in the firing line as it were, but then there was nothing of great importance there I guess.
Looks like a very near miss... on the junction of Holmes Avenue and Neville Avenue - opposite where Bishop Hannington Church now stands.
Why would they bomb the cemetary??
Sounds like Mrs Daniels ?As far as I know it took out the semis at 2 (mine) and 4 Amherst and the semis at 1 and 3 Aldrington.
My neighbour at 1 Aldrington was 'posh' and paid extra to have a peak put on!
Au contraire.
The Royal Pavilion - Hitler wanted it as a Nazi headquarters.
My aunty lived in Bennett Rd Kemp Town and as you can see on the map, it got hammered. The Hun were trying to get the gas works near the Marina.
Looks like a whole load went down the other side of Ditchling Road from me.
And that Brighton and Hove Golf Course? Is that still there?
