I was there - I had recently got back into following the Albion and had been taking my sister along to get her away from becoming a Man Ure fan. I seem to remember Stapleton not having the pace to get to a cross at one point and he looked up into the north stand with a look that said he had just realised he didn't have it any more.
I remember the game more for Stewart Kerr. I thought he was quality and he made a great save in front of the north stand to prevent an own goal. I have a feeling the ball either deflected off Smith or a Smith special clearance spooned up and spun goalwards and Kerr changed direction at the last moment and kept it out. I think I'm right in saying we didn't have a fit keeper and nobody else wanted their keepers cup tied so wouldn't loan anyone to us so Brady went to Celtic to borrow Kerr. I thought Rust was a good shot stopper but couldn't kick to save his life and made a few too many mistakes. I remember wishing we could keep Kerr who seemed to have it all at that level.
