Dick's book officially not stocked at the club shop.

Because he keeps towing out the same line, the books been out what 3 weeks now and still having a go at the club for not stocking it. In all honesty if anyone was going to buy it, they would have by now I imagine. He's coming across as a bitter old man, chipping away at the club, who clearly don't care.

I'd go with DK's judgement as to whether or not more books can be sold and what are the best ways to promote its sale, considering his background.

He's not 'chipping' away at the club unless you consider the individuals who have made the decision regarding stocking his book to be the club.

Pointless replying as you are massively, and blindly defend Barnes even when the facts are against you, but the fact he criticised the club AGAIN yesterday on Facebook, for not stocking the book, just backs up my comments.

Not sure what Barnes has got to do with it

The point I was making is that criticising the club does it no harm - it won't stop people coming to watch matches, buy its merchandise nor diminish support for the team. I would agree that DK's actions may niggle the current directors but they are not the club.

Maybe you could explain what you mean by 'chipping away at the club'?

Several times DK makes comments about various other clubs chairman, often saying how well he got on with Barry Hearn. But didn't Hearn want us kicked out of the league after the orient game at the goldstone.

Just finished the book. I must confess was living Downunder during the late 90's and didn't catch everything that happened in a pre-internet age.

One thing is for sure Dick didn't get involved in the Albion for money which some cynics believe. I also do not believe he is bitter towards Tony, when you put that much of your life into anything letting go is always going to be difficult.

Correct. There are a dozen people on here - no more - who have invented an entirely mythical gathering of "Dick Lickers" and spend rather too much time attacking that group in the safe and certain knowledge that it can't retaliate because it doesn't exist. I'll say it one more time. There is not one person on the FFA and associated groups - normal recipients of the name-calling - who would regard him/herself as a nailed on Dick supporter. They were all even-handed Albion supporters and remain so today.

"A nailed on Dick supporter"? Surely the garment of choice for the gentlemen of Opus Dei.

I confess I did find it to be a little self-indulgent at times- but, then again, I guess if it's your own autobiography, then you're entitled to do that.

As someone else has pointed out, it does come across as though he found it extremely difficult to let go, even to someone who financially was able to take the Albion to completely new levels.

Self-indulgent agreed, but for what he did for us he has every right to be. To achieve what he did you need to believe in yourself. The guy will forever be deep in the DNA of the club, Dick fought and fought and never gave up during some tough times in his own life.

Dick's book sold so well, he had to do a second run quite quickly so this has been a big seller and not just in Brighton or BHAFC fans. The REMF book signings, meetings raised £ 700 for the REMF and Dick is happy to continue this so if you want to meet the great Man for 45 minutes for a coffee and get a book signed with a personal message send me a PM and it can be arranged. Dick has offered his time for free and he has many stories to tell.

Self-indulgent agreed, but for what he did for us he has every right to be. To achieve what he did you need to believe in yourself. The guy will forever be deep in the DNA of the club, Dick fought and fought and never gave up during some tough times in his own life.

Dick was the only one ready to step in to save the club right away, rather than those that dithered like a certain poster on here.

It was difficult, also, for him to agree to the club being run by one man, even though that one man was a fan with a long family history of supporting the club. He was going against his own principle.

It is also self-indulgent, inaccurate in places, contains a fair degree of bullsh*t and name-dropping, and utterly partial - but that is history for you. Partial in the eye of the beholder.

Obviously it would be good for Knight and boost his sales, but it would also be good for the fans to have that available to buy in the store.

You're right about the lawyers.

I get the impression that most of those people complaining about what DK had to say [some of whom may even have read the book] would have been even louder in their condemnation if he had produced a bland, uncritical tome that failed to reflect his true feelings. That might have guaranteed a presence in the shop and increased sales, but I doubt he would ever have gone for that option. And let's face it, if he had been afraid of ruffling a few feathers and willing to settle for a quiet life, the club might not be where it is today.

Haven't had much desire to read this to be honest, but might pick up a copy now. I thought it might be a bit of a case of hard feelings, but perhaps it's a bit more insightful than I was giving it due credit.
