Talking about making mountain out of a molehill, this is classic NSC moaning. The fact that Dicks is not going to cater for children is not really a big deal considering how many people the place can fit in the place, and it is not as if there are no alternative options for pre-match activities for those who are accompanying children. It's discussions like this that make me appreciate why Martin Perry's blood starts to boil.

One thing is clear, Bloom better have a big ad in Monday's Guardian looking for a new PR or communications director as everything they do turns to shit at the moment.

Is that still Insider's job or has he moved on from there?

One could equally argue, that there is no reason for them NOT to give that approval.

That is the point that you are deliberately ignoring.

I'm not ignoring the point, I just don't understand why people are so adamant that children have just as much right to be in the bar as adults. Should under 18s be allowed in Casinos, even though they cannot gamble?

Very good point. I've got the solution then: Mums and Dads (and Uncle Alan), send the kids round to their seats with their cans of coke or whatever that they're allowed to drink in sight of the pitch. You go in the bar and drink the beer that you're NOT allowed to drink in sight of the pitch. Then after a couple of pints go and check on them to make sure they're all right, thus freeing up a bit more space in the bar for incoming parents (and blokes who just want to drink and swear).

There. Compromise reached, problem solved, end of thread. Next issue please.

Perish the thought of the binfest on here should an unsupervised littl'un have an accident of somekind whilst the parent is guzzling beer

Why does it NEED to give a reason?

Because it's the right thing to do? It's just that the reason doesn't APPARENTLY stack up. I'm querying it, that's all.

If a pub opened up on your street and the landlord told you politely that they didn't allow kids, would you kick off that it wasn't fair and it was your right to take kids drinking with you? I very much doubt you would.

In this scenario, if the pub didn't allow kids, I wouldn't go there, I'd go to the next place. You don't get that same luxury at the stadium.

Please don't say that the concourses are the same thing. They're not.

It's discussions like this that make me appreciate why Martin Perry's blood starts to boil.

I would agree with your point of view if it wasnt for the fact that this new condition of the bar goes against some significant discussions that took place with Mr Perry himself. As I've said on here already, this is small beer in the grand scheme of things but I can understand people's confusion given how this has now been communicated.

All I am saying is that on match days it is A BAR. I don't pretend to know exactly what the club's plans and ambitions for it were but there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to suggest it was planned with families in mind. Why should it have been?

I can suggest it Because that is EXACTLY what was in mind when it was first presented. The models it was due to be based on were Torquay, Walsall and Rochdale. All of which were (and still are) family venues. Something along the way has changed and clearly those who have been most closely working on this including John have also been taken by surprise on this.

Fair do's if that is what the club wish to do but to dress it up as a legal matter is not the right way to deliver the message.

Naa. The stewards will look after them. Anyway my dad used to leave me outside or in the car when he went in the pub and it never did me any harm.

ha ha, I can imagine it now, stewards playing I-Spy or hide and seek in the aisles :)
Seriously though, and sadly, it's a different world to the days when our dad would give us a coke and a bag of crisps and tell us to sit on the step of the pub.

Edited to say, I wasn't suggesting we share the same dad Brovian :)

And besides, not everybody wants kids around. Give those of us that don't ONE sanctuary away from your little darlings

Seconded. Sorry – I'm probably just a miserable old sod but I quite like the idea of bar where there are no kids running around. That will definitely give the place a different atmosphere to the concourses. It seems virtually impossible these days to go out for a drink or a meal without feeling like you're in the middle of a crèche.

On the subject of people not wanting to stay after the game, I know this has really worked at any other ground so far. Hopefully, the opportunity to see highlights of the match and interviews with Gus and the players will entice a few to hang about and consequently ease the public transport situation.

Old Trafford has a Fan Zone, it is a huge marquee with food and seating available as well as a bar and Playstations for the kids. Now, how about taking away the car park spaces outside the ground and putting a big beer tent up?:cheers::whistle:

This all boils down to the poor communication from the club in my opinion. Not only on this issue but many others conflicting information has been given out at various times, and they have indeed made themselves look shifty on on occasions. I think this is something they have to address, and pretty damn quickly if they want to avoid more disquiet amongst the fanbase.

BUT, with all this nitpicking over every flipping detail we are in danger of missing out on the bigger picture here, which is that we are about to embark on one of, if not, THE most exciting periods in the history of this football club. However we find ourselves bogged down in rows about whether a bar will let kids in or not. it really does beggar belief in my opinion.

Moving from a ramshackle venue such as the Withdean to something as new as the Amex, provides a whole host of logistical challenges to the club and it is no surprise that things are not perfect at the outset, but this is to be expected. Things will improve over time as fans, staff and the organisation get to grips with their new surroundings. I think they deserve a little slack in the run up to the opening when they will be under great pressure to get things right.

Daft comparison. Under 18's are prohibited from Casinos by law.

It is the 'supporters' bar', not the 'adult supporter's bar'. Please explain why children DON'T have as much right to be there as adults?

There's a huge marquee on the rugby field next to the stadium at the moment, would be perfect.

The STH bar at Elland Road is similar by the way.
