You've done a POLL, asking "who's the best recently'", instead of "who's the best". In recent months, people on here/in the argus/on SCR have all commented on how Navarro has improved fantastically. He's CLEARLY the favourite because you've included 'recent' in the title.

Basically tayloring the question towards the result that you think is 'right', purely for the gratification when Navarro (probably) wins, as you've suddenly decided Navarro is the best thing since sliced bread (4 games before the season finishes).

If you'd asked "who is the best", then there would be no favourite, as opinion on the players (as highlighted here) is definitely split. But you haven't, you've asked about recent form, knowing full well Navarro's performances at the beginning of the season were GASH, and Dicker's around christmas were excellent.

So yeah, it's pointless.

Why are you pleased?

Because about 2000 posts of my post count are made up for me arguing that Navarro wasn't anywhere near as bad he was being made out, and that Dicker wasn't anywhere near as good as he was being made out.

Now, finally, the majority can seemingly appreciate the pro's of Navarro, and probably have a more realistic view of Dicker's capabilities, two things that I've been able to see since pretty much the moment Navarro started playing under Gus.

I appreciate that sounds incredibly arrogant, I really don't mean it to, as I don't for one minute think my opinions on Albion players is always right (contrary to what some believe, I am well aware I'm a supporter who doesn't play football at a high level, and thus my opinion is less vaild than someone who has played for Chelsea and is a professional football manager!).

But it genuinely pleasing when lots of people finally begin to agree with you after you've taken a bit of a caning for it for the majority of the season. Look at 'Chesney Christ' - we've been disagreeing all season on this one, and now more or less seem to understand exactly where we're both coming from.

In short then, it is good that the majority have moved from a 'Navarro shit/Dicker amazing' opinion, to a 'Dicker and Navarro = different players who are decent enough at what they do'.

edit: I should probably point out that I perhaps didn't give Dicker enough credit on here in my attempts to convince people Navarro wasn't as bad as being made out, but I've obviously seen the error of my ways in the same way many have about Navarro. So yeah, I'm a bit of a hypocrite really. bugger.

A question where there's an OBVIOUS favourite (i.e. the one who has spectacularly won over NSC with his recent form), and it just happens to be the person that the idiot starting the thread decided was his favourite player only last week, and has been getting himself off over it all week.

It proves nothing, they are both different players with different qualities. I'm pleased that people can now recognise Navarro's talents as opposed to slating him because he's not Dicker, and equally pleased that most people have realised that Dicker is perhaps not the Beckenbauer many were making out at the beginning of the season. But for god sake don't now start slating Dicker simply because he's not Navarro.

They are both decent enough players. Not amazing, not shit - somewhere in between.
Stupid polls like this aren't going to change that.

It seems on NSC that if someone likes one they can't like the other. Personally, I rate Dicker, Crofts AND Navarro.

It was like the Poyet vs Forster thing - everyone had to be either "Pro Gus/Anti Forster" or "Pro Forster/Anti Gus".

OK but pre-Poyet Navarro really was woeful in a few performances wasn't he, and at the same time Dicker really was very good, no?

Navarro was terrible at the start of the season. His performances were lacklustre, he kept giving the ball away and his protection of the back four was laughable. Dicker hasn't been great all season. He's had patches of brilliance but the consistency has been sadly lacking. Navarro has got better and better as the season has gone on and is very consistent.

Incidentally, watching Arismendi has really made me appreciate Navarro. A lot.

No. Navarro is responsible for the defensive side, he's not there to create. Hence why Crofts and Dicker need to up their goals and assists or risk being replaced in my opinion.

I've never thought about it before, but the way we've been playing Crofts has been the one getting forward more often and Dicker and Navarro have been sitting and holding the middle ground.

Their job is to win the ball and distribute, or to be available to take a pass. They both do it well, but Navarro is the better ball winner and Dicker is the better passer and better at making space for himself. I don't really see why it should be a choice between the two of them.

When it works, it's the Masch - Alonso - Gerrard set up that was excellent at Liverpool last season.

Dicker is a quality footballer but could do with a bit more consistency, Navarro has improved from an incredibly low standard he set himself to become a generally competent League One defensive midfielder. Don't think Poyet is 100% convinced with EITHER of them, hence Hendrie and Arismendi.

I thought when Alan first came here, he was overweight. Looked slow on the ball, never really gave us anything and just didn't look like he settle down here. But when Gus came in he has changed dramatically, he looks settled now he is living down here. He lost alot of weight and is looking like the same player he was when he was at MK Dons.

Quite. I'm just pleased that we've actually got some quality midfielders at this level, something we haven't had for a good many years.
