Exactly, and as you get older the guessing game gets harder, believe me, plus the mid life crisis is in full swing. Not defending him, just saying it's not so easy to say no when put on a plate.

In the words of Vincent (John Travolta) in Pulp Fiction:
So... you're gonna go out there, you're gonna say 'goodnight' and 'I've had a very lovely evening'... walk out the door, get in the car.... go home, jerk off... and that's all you gonna do.

From the BBC website, 26 March 1999:-

The Chelsea coach and former England star was sentenced to a total of 12 months imprisonment for having unlawful sex with a 15-year-old girl and indecently assaulting her.

Rix, who was capped for England 17 times and is regarded as one of the country's top coaches, was sentenced at London's Knightsbridge Crown Court.

At an earlier hearing, Rix, a 41-year-old father of four, pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful sex and a second charge of indecent assault.

Rix is believed to have met the girl and had sex with her at a west London hotel on the eve of Chelsea's Premiership match with Manchester United in February 1998.

'No alternative' to jail

Sentencing him, the judge told Rix that in the circumstances of the case, there was "no realistic alternative" to an immediate sentence of imprisonment.

However, he also said that Rix would be released after serving half of his sentence and then remain subject to the terms of licence. Rix will also have to remain on the sex offenders' register for the next 10 years.

The judge made it clear that the circumstances of the case made it very difficult to impose a fair sentence.

He acknowledged Rix to be "a mature man of previous impeccable character and soundness of reputation, with an impressive career in his field of professional expertise, held in high regard by his colleagues and the public alike".

Although the young girl had not been abducted or been subjected to violence, her welfare had to be protected.

'A virgin flattered by celebrity'

The judge told the court: "These offences took place when she was only weeks short of her 16th birthday, the age of consent, yet at the time of the offences she was a virgin, plainly a girl who was undoubtedly like any other fascinated and flattered by the attentions of a man who was to her knowledge a celebrity, attended by the glamour of fame and success."

Although the judge accepted the girl made no strong protests to Rix's advances, he deemed his behabiour irresponsible. "There was in my view a significant amount of irresponsibility in your behaviour, illustrating a determination to have sex irrespective of her feelings," he said.

The judge pointed out that Rix had refused to use a condom despite the girl's requests and his knowledge that she was a virgin at the time.

If Rix gets the job, I guarantee I will not watch the Albion until he goes.

Fine supporters you are! Support the team, regardless of the manager! I don't want Rix either, but I wouldn't stop going to matches for that reason. What's the point in not going? To make a point? Who would know what you were protestung about, anyway?

I'll second that. And whatever you do, please don't let Danny, Leon and Jake go to Reading (or anywhere else).

We live in hope that we'll not lose our better players to anyone (and especially not the way Villa poached Barry), but when we have talented pros associated with the club we are going to see some move on up eventually.
Just as we are seen as a 'farm club' for others, we have to look to other clubs to keep supplying talent our way.

Incidentally it might be worth noting that Coppell COULD do wrong, and a couple of his choices weren't all that great either. Let's not look upon Coppell as a saint because he's gone, and put unnecessary pressure on the next man.
SC may now be highly rated because of his successes with Brighton, and that may be an over-rating for his jump into the reading job - there's no guarantee that he's going to succeed there .

I too hope that the next BHA manager doesn't come in with prejudices or baggage, because a lot to do with our success is that we get behind the team..... starting this Saturday !

What about Laurie Sanchez

Sanchez took Wycombe to the FA Cup semi's. And put up a good show against Liverpool. Might have bin different, he was so strapped for cash that year he even advertised on the internet for a winger.

Bloody miracle worker I say.
