I've never understood why people completely slate Knight, either for being tight fisted or other reasons. Ok, he screwed up big time a year ago, sacking Wilkins and bringing back Adams, though I feel he has got things right with Slade. He hasn't really made too many other big mistakes. Without Knight in charge, the club would have been dead and buried years ago or playing in the Sussex league.

Who cares that he isn't a foreign moneybags type, I'm rather proud of the fact our record signing was made almost thirty years ago!!

LONG LIVE DICK KNIGHT:albion2::albion2::bowdown::bowdown:

I am not slating Dick would never even dream of it. But if this club is to reach the heights that some people want then we will need the backing of someone with more money then DK.

Dick Knight my hero!

The first time I met Knight, I was playing in a 6 aside competition, we lost to his sons team, after the game DK came up to me and told me “he thought I was a very good player ”. On the Saturday I went to the Goldstone with my dad. Knight was close by. He told my dad how well I played. After the game my dad bought me the West Ham away kit. About the same time it was “bob a job week” I went to West Hove Golf course. On my first day, a nice old man gave me £1, the second day, somebody gave me 50p. On the third day I caddied for the son of Brighton’s vice chairman Harry Bloom. I was a going to play for West Ham or Brighton! I thought the Bloom’s are rich and another £1 was on the way. Ronnie Bloom gave me 5p for following him around the golf course for 4 hours, he took the term “bob a job” quite literally! I always kept track of Knight and the Blooms. It’s always been the Bloom’s ambition to run the Albion, but I hope they treat Knight better than they treated me as a nine year old!

You've perfectly summed up the current attitute of domestic football, in that the more money you have the likelyhood of being more succesful and imo why the Premeirship is largely based on greed. One of the reasons why I love the Albion is that the club isn't dictated by large amounts of capital. Maybe one day we might be run by a rich foreigner, but to be honest, I'm quite happy having a true fan run the club.

I agree. People who think we could challenge for the championship and ultimately the premiership on a shoestring are living in cloud cuckoo land. Knight has done us proud but maybe now is the time to pass the chalice on to someone with more financial clout and, who is an Albion fan. At the end of the day, I would always expect to see DK give a life presidency of the club for services.

Why are you proud of that? We made our record signing when we were in the top flite of English Football. The fact we haven't matched that for that long is that we have been out of the top flite. Personally, I can't wait to see us play in the premiership again rather than struggling in league 1 but without money behind the club I anticipate a long wait.

Your asuming that there are moneymen out there willing to pump millions into a club which has no collateral, without Dk the clubs profile would be very low and the investment we have received from shareholders might have been even lower or we may have gone out of business altogether

To think of the Albion as a team that could and should be in the Championship now or even the Premiership is just unrealistic, who pays all the extra costs, who provides the extra investment needed to achieve that?

If Premiership or Championship football is what you think the Albion should be delivering while at Withdean then you should just look for another team to glory hunt at instead. Why risk the long term future of the club by aiming to achieve something that is currently unsustainable and couuld ultimately cause the demise of the club.

Southampton and Charlton both over extended themselves financially in the Premiership, and look at them now, both down to league 1 and in financial difficulties, at least they have a ground to fall back on, something we don't have yet.

The only way this will change for us is when Falmer is built and the club becomes a more attractive proposition for potential investors, as well as giving us more scope in ticket prices and promotions. Getting this built is far more important to the club than any potential short term success on the pitch.

I've been hearing some horrid things about people wanting to get rid of this amazing man. Dick Knight never turned his back on Brighton in his 12 years of supporting and leading the club...So Brighton should never turn its back on him.

This team doesn't need those money men to run it, it needs someone with passion, commitment and drive and that is precisely what Knight is giving to the club.

Umm, member since today, appearance on here coinciding with the recent Knight slagfest comments. So you finally decided to sign up for this place then Dick? Welcome to NSC.

the people with the financial clout are behind the scenes and (presumably) happy to let DK take the shit and (occassionally) a little credit for doing what, at times, no-one else could or would. He is well respected and liked in other clubs' board rooms and certainly deserves a prominent place in the Albion hall of fame.

If other moneymen do come in at some point I'm sure the dynamics of the club will change accordingly. I certainly wouldn't expect DK to stand in the way of such change if it were best for the club.

There is nothing to stop other potential investors, and they may also choose to keep DK in the Chairmans role if they wished so claims that DK is preventing new money is utter rubbish

Actually i'm a 23 year old female retail manager who has been following the club for 12 years. I joined the north stand chat after over hearing some people slagging off Dick Knight and i thought it was disgusting.

Sorry but a club losing millions each year and with a new ground to pay for clearly DOES need moneymen...

Indeed. If it wasn't for Norman Cook and the Blooms money, regardless of Dick Knight's legendary status we would have gone bust ages ago.

Totally agree we would have gone bust many years ago,11 million in debt is terrible and thankfully its an internal debt that will get re-paid one day.A decent-brilliant chairman would see through his task with very little debt.

The man has done his best although not the man to take us to the next level:thumbsup:

It's obviously not just a case of needing someone richer. Bill Archer is considerably richer than Dick Knight. Anyway, since DK clearly has the backing of several wealthy fans and there's no evidence of a billionaire waiting in the wings, it's all pretty irrelevant.

Personally I'd rather have someone we know and trust at the helm. Obviously he's made mistakes but name a chairman who hasn't ...

Evidence? From someone that praised me for backing the club when the previous manager was replaced, you are coming across as very very hypocritical.

Here's a thought. Why not give up on the sniping and get behind the new manager? Your posts about Wilkins are boring. I was and am a big fan of Wilkins. But the board decided that he was not the man to lead us forward. Obviously they have made mistakes henceforth, but what's done is done. Move on.

don't know whether people at the club like DK but can repeat that to my personal knowledge he is held in some esteem by many other clubs' directors who rate him as both astute in football business terms and wholely committed to the good of the club
(witness conversations with directors of at least 6 midlands sides)
