Companies don't care about profit?
What? Where have you got that from? The companies are already charging as much as they can to maximise their profits.

It's you that's suggesting they could charge more and earn more if they wanted, but they don't.

Oh and great, all the existing franchise owners get screwed.
They will have contracts that protect them. And as I explained, the likes of Starbucks wouldn't just put up the prices anyway, because it wouldn't work.

You think that taxing a company more and reducing it's profitability will have no impact on jobs. Oh well that's fine then. I mean history shows this to be the case.

No. it doesn't show that. Lot's of examples to contradict this, as should be obvious. Do you really think the way the world works is so simplistic? By that logic we should see major improvements for workers when we cut corporation taxes...That really isn't going well so far is it?

In reality (as with nearly all research on tax policy) the evidence will be mixed. There are too many factors at play to make any safe assumptions.just one example of an inconclusive attempt to pin this down here: http://www.nber.org/papers/w20753

Tax policy has many purposes. It is not just about maximising revenue - or being 'competitive' it is about redistribution, re-pricing and representation. Ultimately it is about politics and the type of society you want to live in.

Anyway, you were very quick to agree with me about Abbott. Do you also agree about May - or are you blinded to reality by your political views? She has been AWFUL so far.

I find Dianne Abbot to be one of the worst MPs to be interviewed, she just comes out with the stock "say nothing" answers and doesn't answer the questions. Dreadful to watch and pretty typical of the current Labourists. How she would be as Home Secretary is beyond me.

Her plus her leader,Labour cannot fail to come out tops, whats the current odds????

Gods country fortnightly
It took the Tories 23 years to win an election and in 2 years they've created chaos to try and settle their own internal bickering. Yet, despite this its impossible for them to lose this election, Labour are just a shambles.

Your net worth is less than mine, so as I say, you're talking out of your arse.

I'm no left wing looney, I just happen to disagree with your angry little Englander view on life.

Well judging by the thumbs up, I would say your in a minority again, as you will find out at the election. Labour is history. EU is history. We are not going to tax the rich until they leave the country.

You lose. Get over it. Bye.

When did that happen?

Bit early for a few scoops.

She reminds me of the SWP dickheads who used to run the NUS when I was a student. No need to explain anything because they had a monopoly on not only wisdom but also goodness. If you had the temerity to crossquestion them all you got was a load of patronising drivel. 'No compromise with the electorate' FFS. Bring Back Mr Tony. He may have done some unbelievably stupid things (like providing state funding for 'faith' schools - aka creationist/islamist/homeopathist abominations, and making up WMDs when the war was already justified by ten years of SadMan two-fingering bumbler Blix - oo er missus) but he was head and shoulder above the current shower, and would have made mince meat of May and the absolute disgrace before her who allowed the referendum without considering the possibility of losing. And.... exhale.

Abbot, though . . . . I loath her, and her lifelong opposition to private schools (apart from the one to which she sent her son). Only a complete and utter clown would appoint her to a shadow post; albeit how ethical is it to promote a former squeeze to shadow high office? Corbyn, you are a Conservative's dream opponent, and with Abbot sat next to you in your political Trabant, with her hand on your gear stick, you are on the highway to Hell, with four bald tyres and no brakes. It gives me no pleasure to say that.

Just far enough away from LDC
Regular readers of nsc political threads will know I have no time for ms Abbott

However on radio 4 this morning she came across well on this very same subject. Doesn't excuse the car crash of this interview but underneath this there is a good policy and the guardian has a good review of how the figures (the correct ones) stack up.

I am perplexed however that Teresa may can say she will prevent tourism. Look a Muppet eating fish and chips, fail to remember where she is visiting in an interview and lock local journos in a warehouse to avoid being filmed on a visit to a factory and yet there is little or no presd coverage. However the shadow home secretary makes a ****ing shambles of numbers on an interview or tim farron offers to smell a spaniel and it's BBC website headlines.

So 4 "thumbs up" proves that you're right that we shouldn't raise inheritance tax? And I lose what exactly? And why on earth are prattling on about Labour (as if I should care) and the EU being history? If you're going to post like a moron, don't bother posting at all.

I learnt a new word today - "misspoke".

I looked it up in the dictionary: "express oneself in an insufficiently clear or accurate way".

Er - I don't think so Diane. This definition assumes you know a little about what you are talking about but but don't get your
message across.

Same old Labour, when it comes to balancing the books you can rely on them fooking it up.

I swear from reading this thread, the level of knowledge and passion from folks on here is incredible. Overpaid politicians are so useless these days, it's depressing that I've learned more from reading the last 12 pages or so than in however many years of following political campaigns. Some great insights on here (apart from the tasteless posts declaring their wealth:...)

Save the willy-waving for someone who cares. Like, no one.

Thank goodness we had six years of ecomomic prudence from the stories with Osbourne managing to 'balance the books'....

Now, how's that surplus looking?

In my short lifetime on this planet, all I have ever seen from the labour party is spend spend spend.

I would like to see a change in policy from them.......but let's face it, it won't happen.

Asked about the interview, Jeremy Corbyn said he was “not embarrassed in the slightest”........... maybe he misheard, and did not mean the interview.
