I'd say they're more likely to go down now than they had been. This appointment will be nothing but trouble. Little experience, one promotion with a relatively huge budget. The Swindon fans I know are glad he's gone from them. Poor Sunderland, they'll regret it.

O'Neil was only going one way, quickly.

Di Canio will stop that, get them a couple of wins, job done.

But if they keep him into next season they are mentals and relegation fodder.

O'Neill was having a bad season. He doesn't have many of those. I'd have stuck with him regardless.

More than a bad season.

There was a purple patch of some results in his first 2 months after taking charge in Dec 2011,
But in the following 14 months, wins were rare, and with awful performances such as home to an off-form and 10 man Norwich.

It just didn't work out and the momentum was sharply downwards. They are in deep trouble with nightmare fixtures to come until the end of this season.
