Derby County have completed the signing of Luton Town striker Steve Howard for a fee of £1m.

Howard has agreed a three-year contract at Pride Park after spending more than five years at Kenilworth Road.

I thought they were £40m in debt? :nono:

I saw that and thought the same. You do wonder how clubs like Coventry, Leeds and Cardiff all reputed to be heavily in debt can still manage to pay large transfer fees.

Still these clubs find money to spend - we must be in a really bad way - Got to be good for our future though to wasting cash we don't have.

They probably all borrow it against values of stadiums etc something we cannot do having very few assets.

A new board came in and wiped most of their debts out, and as each day goes by the rest of their debts are being cleared.

They've also managed to give Billy Davies a fair bit of transfer kitty.

They can also borrow against future gate receipts, something else we cannot do.

Nor do we have a stable cashflow witout Falmer, hence the LDC strategy of trying to filibuster us into extiction, it won't work though !!

Haven't they got new directors in and refinanced? Might have got that wrong but it seems to ring a bell.

Howard is a fine mobile targetman who caused us no end of problems last season.

Big loss for Mike Newall, it will be interesting to see if Luton are financially strong enough to re-invest this money in their squad or will gravity catch up with them.
