My daughter is a sufferer she tried a few types of medication but is much better on a product called Cymbolta.
Learning meditation techniques and doing yoga helps.
I myself get a mini depression every Sunday evening at about 7.00pm brought on by the thought of having to go to work and I'm not joking or it may be that the weekend is ending too soon, I get pretty pissed off.
Work is going fine and there are no problems with it, it's just the prospect.

Because Cheeky Monkey's advice is only a slight step-up from "pull yourself together". Telling someone with depression to "find meaning" and "set life goals" is a bit like telling someone with no legs to try going for a jog.

show them the way and never give up-do you really think that without a lot of love dedication passion and desire that in 99% of cases this cannot be achieved-you lack patience.

Depression is a bad thing. You will have feelings of hopelessness. You also get to the stage where you can not enjoy anything at all and cannot remember the last time you enjoyed something.

I hope for his sake Frutos can remember just how much he enjoyed the Haye fight not so many hours ago and reflect on that a while and hopefully use that type of semi interest to counter act his current depression.

Think of positive things about yourself. What are your attributes? Write them down. Ask friends and family what they think are your standout abilities and talents, they must have some reasons to like you - ask them.

Energy begats energy. If you do feel listless, hopeless, tired, and generally disinterested in life - do go for a swim, a run or a cycle.

Walk in the countryside, rain or shine, not necessarily knowing where you are or are going.

Find someone seriously debilitated and apply yourself to helping them, or accompanying them. Know any crippled or sick children? You will soon realize how much you have to be depressed about compared to them. Humility doesn't suffer self-pity, but depression is sometimes a path to humility. Accept it, be grateful for your life, and then show gratitude by giving something rewarding back. This will endure, whereas pleasing ones-self has a very short time of reward.

Too long mate I'd forget about half way through what the beginning was, I also tend to stay up later than I should trying to delay the inevitable, oh well.

I was on a cocktail of drugs. They turned me into a monster and i kept taking over doses. Oddly that's one of the sideeffects of some of these drus. Im now med free asas it was the safest option and its the best i felt in years .

Nlp is another good option.

I'm going to watch the cricket on the internet now, but by the way England are playing I don't think that will last long either.

Thank your lucky stars-some people in the slums of Brazil for example would love to trade places with Perth-enjoy the limited overs match:laugh:

Frutos, you said you haven't drunk alcohol for nine years. Is that because it was bringing you down and you thought you had to lay off it? Just curious. Hope you find happiness. Fortunately I have never had depression (or at least I don't think so) but after my mother died two years ago I was low and got caned a lot. I read a book called the Seven Spiritual Laws of Success (or something like that) by Deepak Chopra and it really helped and changed my perspective on life.

We all get the blues and have down days but real depression can be debilitating. I have never suffered from real depression where you can't see a way forward but do know that whatever anyone says doesn't make it any better. The fact that there are some people worse off than you makes no difference whatsoever, as you have your own cross to bear. Getting out and about is a good one for me if I am feeling low as it always lifts my mood, talking about it to friends you trust is also a way of getting your feelings out into the open. One step at a time is best, and good luck to Sheebo and anyone else on here suffering from depression currently.
