Ah, I read that sentence as suggesting that one followed on from the other.

I'm sure it would help keep the country together if there had always been a UK or British team and league, but as it is there's always been a rivalry between the home nations, I'd say if anything it's less of an issue now in football than it used to be, given Scotland so rarely qualify and we barely play each other.

We do when it comes to the Olympics and military conflicts over the last few hundred years.

Hinterland v The Killing.

Two of the finest dramas to hit the small screen meet head to head.

The Killing takes it.

Kom nu Danmark.

Sidse v Eve Myles.....only one winner.

Isn't Eve Myles in Keeping Faith rather than Hinterland?

Both great Welsh shows, as well as Hidden.

I'm supporting Denmark and Italy tonight

Indeed, and Sidse wasn't in The Killing.

Just comparing two lovely actors from each nation.

While I cheer for Denmark, I also hope the Potter boys (Roberts, Rodon & James) play well for Wales. Could see this being a really entertaining game.

What is the general feeling between Sweden and Denmark in a football context? When I visited Stockholm a couple of years ago it felt like literally any issue Sweden has faced over the years has been blamed on Denmark or a Dane on some level.

That's true, but if you look at the old clips of the 1966 World Cup the crowd were flying Union flags, and obviously the SNP didn't have the same support as today.

Hmmm , I'm not sure many Scottish people wanted England to win that day. I was wandering along an Algarve beach in 1998 when a very sun burnt short Scot approached me and berated me most vociferously  to my complete astonishment . It was only when I realised that I was wearing my Bobby Moore Hero 1966 T shirt did I put two and two together and understand what he was so aggravated about :) . Most Scots who were about in those days completely avoided the game and hoped for a German victory (Denis Law played golf and refused to watch it in case england won).

Win/win this one.

I want Wales to do well, but then would be quite happy to see Denmark go through too, given the back story and the fact they usually come out and play football.

This evening I'm all in on Italy. Mainly because they are playing such lovely football, but also because Austria are always painfully dull.

Pretty lazy rivalry on a national team level but Malmö FF vs FC Köpenhamn is kind of tense these days, usually a bit of violence involved.

And then there was the remarkable game in the 2007 Euro qualifiers. Sweden needed at least one point to qualify, Denmark needed to win. With only seconds to go, Denmark were up 3-2 but Christian Poulsen decided to beat one of the Swedish players in the stomach, and Sweden got a penalty. However, some Dane ran on to the pitch and beat the ref, so Sweden won 3-0 on WO.

Come on Wales.

It’d be great to see another British team winning.

Us Brits should stick together

I'm rooting for Wales.

Partly influenced by my dislike for the Danish 'keeper. The time wasting referee nagging short arse prat.
