[Albion] Demand for away tickets

Cant remember how far down the chain away Euro tickets sold out last season, but there will be a lot more games in future.
To start with, all tournaments have 36 teams with a guaranteed 8 games. You have to be really bad not to qualify for either the knockout or play off games, so that's 2 more games. So, presuming we are one of the top 24 teams in the competition, there would be 5 away games.
If we end up 9th in the league we would get a priority draw against a team 17th to 24th so could well get yet another game.
In reality, don't book any holidays for 25/26 and start saving now. But don't worry about points.

Marseilles and Roma - Everyone who wanted one

Ajax - about 600 were left on the second day (T2) sold out in about 4 minutes

AEK - again about 600 left on day 2 (albeit from a smaller allocation) sold out in about an hour.

The matter with Europe was how to get there.

I ended up using trains, buses, ferries and taxis. Rome needed a visit to 2 other Italian cities. Yes the warnings will have put some off but there were plenty others who could have gone but logistically couldn't.

Out to Rome, via Geneva = walk / train / flight / train / flight / coach

Back from Rome, via Pisa and Birmingham = train / shuttle train / flight / train / bus

All good fun, but it was tiring - both in the manic planning, and in the execution!

What ever happened to going away just to support your team....

In answer to your post - still the same. I remember going to watch the Albion all over the country back in the 1970s. The difference was then it was pay on the gate (unless it was a humongous all ticket match), secondly there were never the sheer numbers of Brighton fans going away as there are now. I went to see the boys play at Sheffield United and Bristol Rovers, both midweek evening games, and the number of Albion fans present never exceeded a few hundred.

What has changed now is our success has meant that supply has been far outstripped by demand for tickets. The good thing is that away ticket prices are capped at £30 a pop. Also, if you are prepared to research you can pick up bargain train fares throughout the country - subject of course to the PL/FA/TV companies not changing the original schedule.

Just a hint, but I done Athens & Rome as Easyjet 5 day holidays. They turned out cheaper and easier to book than the rush for flights & trains. At least that's what the wife told me.

I'm not retired, sadly, so no chance of being able to find that kind of time off!

We actually achieved the Rome travel adventure by being inventive, for under £200 return. (Southampton to Pisa was £19, and Pisa to Birmingham not much more)

If anyone buys an away ticket as @Bozza has mentioned it & we don't get to Europe....

A) it's his fault we didn't get there due to this post,
B) sue him for compensation!

I have to confess that if it happens again and they do the 3 match pack (unlikely to do the 3 match pack again imo) I will borrow money this time to pay for it. Didn't have the money until the day after & had to buy all the tickets on the exchange, which wasn't cheap as I had to pay full price for an under 18. Probably worth every penny though!!!
For the AEK game I got to find out which bits of clothing or shoe wear was as waterproof as they claimed. *Spoiler* Coat, yes.. Boots, absolutely f**king not!

@Bozza has jinxed it now, so no need to attend any away matches that you wouldn't normally attend or start a Europa League savings fund.

Don't get me wrong, my son says it is his best albion experience ever going to marseille. However with more time available (we tried to limit time out of school to 2 days at a time) we could have had longer and cheaper. I could have had 4 nights in Athens with flights for what I paid for a 40 hr round trip and 8 hours in a hotel room

Agree re the time. I did 3 of the 4 away European games and it was travelling one day, queuing for ticket and buses on the day of the game and travelling back on the third day. We've already decided that, if we are fortunate to qualify, next season we'll take an extra day (in our group most are able to do so). Question is, do we take the extra day after the match or before?

After last season (14 away games...£££€€€) I said to myself and my lad that we'd go a bit easier this year and maybe do 6 or 7 aways max. And of course we're in mid-November and we've done three already with two more booked in before Christmas. So the discipline is going well! And that's before the FA Cup kicks in.

It didn't help when it all started with a fantastic opening away day at Everton, a 0-3 thumping (should have been 4) and many rounds of ... "Europe ole ole ole, Europe ole ole ole... Yuuuuruuupp again, Yuuuuruuupp again .." At this point I realised that I was again hooked, loving it (and subconsciously collecting loyalty points again for season 2025-26 on tour).

To an extent it put the wrong people off.

Realistically with money and leave I had the choice between Marseille and Amsterdam. Because I was taking my son the Mrs made that decision for me based on fear mongering I knew would have probably not played out.

The irony being that we were in Rome when mates of ours really were attacked.

I started this season trying to be a better husband/dad to my little one. Albeit I do go to football with my big ones. Therefore I’m balancing the two whilst hopefully keeping myself in tier one for Europe next season.

However I have made some decisions on which away games to go to based on points. So I had a day trip to Newcastle but won’t be going to Bournemouth and didn’t do Chelsea. 15 points rather than 10, and only one weekend day used rather than two.

I’ll also do any evening game away as don’t feel this is time lost on the same way as a weekend. I probably wouldn’t be doing that if it wasn’t for the points.

I think it's quite sad people have become so points obsessed. Especially when any member could get tickets for Marseille and quite a few did for Rome as well.

Yet another reason why there's been such a drop off in noise at away games. People picking a fixture to attend for admin purposes ffs, just go and support your team

Not only that but the Marseille game was NOT a sellout! Something that i still find incredible, our FIRST competitive game in europe and anyone who wanted to go could have obtained a ticket. I know the club did not help with their dire warnings, but still........

Some of the advice snowballed a bit on here in conjunction with what another teams fans were told (Spurs possibly)
You’re a man of the world, for those that had never seen a match abroad before some of that advice could set alarm bells ringing.

Will demand for away tickets increase at some point just in case, well - you know, there might be a few extra away games next season?

I know this will trigger a "now you've done it Bozza", and I'll be blamed as we slide down the table, get relegated, and the most exotic away game we have next season is Middlesbrough.

However, in my defence...

1. What I write on here has absolutely no influence on the results of Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club.

2. This hadn't crossed my mind before someone (I can't remember who now) at the game on Saturday mentioned they might start upping their away attendance to keep their loyalty points tally up "just in case".
