[Albion] Demand for away tickets

Sheffield United away last season the chap in front of me at the turnstiles was scanning at least 4 tickets but the stewards came over to help him as they thought he had a problem and he got all flustered then dashed through. Think he only managed 2 or 3 before he ran away.

So cheating the system, no different from Bournemouth away when we sold out and 20 people went.

I don't think any STHs that want to go to away games in Europe (should we get there) need to worry too much, unless we get drawn against a team with a tiny ground. There were still tickets popping up for Ajax when we were over there, and Marseille tickets went to MyA+, can't remember with Athens. I think supply will satisfy demand for all STHs in the majority of cases.

Having said that, it was one of the factors that gave me the push to book Leicester away tbh.

I have to admit. Some away games I went to in our first season and were absolute shitcan grounds
(Old Trafford, Etihad, Villa, Everton) and I wouldn't ever go back. Some I love going to (Arsenal, Spurs,
Brentford, Chelsea) and pray I get a ticket for these and some I'm indifferent to (West Ham, Newcastle, Palace).

I used to be in the top tier but have dropped down a tier and I just, just about manage to get to the ones
I love going to. But I'd imagine it won't be long before I drop another level (you have to run to stand still
in the loyalty points game).

I started a spreadsheet last year on points for away games and where they sell out. The primary purposes was to track my points (I'm sure there was an occasion where it wasn't added but didn't follow it closely enough to complain) but it's useful to refer to for on sale dates and how many points have typically been required at what point in the season. I've got to be honest, I also LOVE a good spreadsheet.

Anyway, the long and the short of all this is that where the tickets are selling out point is more or less identical to last year when demand was high due to the European games. Demand it seems is still high.

The acid test would be Stoke away in the FA cup again.

Away game take up is primarily driven by how well the team is playing. Not so much for future potential benefits but more for the enjoyment of the here and now.

Not only that but the Marseille game was NOT a sellout! Something that i still find incredible, our FIRST competitive game in europe and anyone who wanted to go could have obtained a ticket. I know the club did not help with their dire warnings, but still........

Im hoping demand doesn’t pick up. My boys haven’t had their season tickets very long they are both in the lowest priority group. So chances of getting away tickets is rare. If i had been on the ball I could have probably got Leicester tickets. It’s probably wishful thinking that West Ham being just before Xmas means take up might be lower and give us a chance of tickets.

Please don't give up hope as i think there is a good chance that some will be available to all season ticket holders. The caveat being that if there are you will probably have to treat your boys to some binoculars as an early present!

The matter with Europe was how to get there.

I ended up using trains, buses, ferries and taxis. Rome needed a visit to 2 other Italian cities. Yes the warnings will have put some off but there were plenty others who could have gone but logistically couldn't.

It was mainly it being the first ever that surprised me, after all there is only one "first". Suppose there is a benefit to being an old git with time to spare and a pension after all.

Don't get me wrong, my son says it is his best albion experience ever going to marseille. However with more time available (we tried to limit time out of school to 2 days at a time) we could have had longer and cheaper. I could have had 4 nights in Athens with flights for what I paid for a 40 hr round trip and 8 hours in a hotel room

Not sure if they do but they might be an indicator of demand though I now seem to remember the points required are in relation to a proportion of the point holder i.e. if we get allocated 1000 tickets the points required represents the top 1000 points holder. Someone in the know will correct me.

I think it all came very quick for people then the press made it seem intimidating and dangerous and I don't think the club helped and fans were left to do their own thing. It was also expensive. I would have loved to go to all 3 , had tier 1 points but have anxiety issues, got to Ajax on the Bluesaway coach which travelled on the day so was a bit like an extended Newcastle trip.

Yes that is exactly how it works.

Loyalty points are Season ticket pts + half of last year's non-season ticket points + this year's Loyalty points.
