As someone else has pointed out, it's what happened with Knockaert and Fulham. It seems to be a growing trend that I believe is down to accounting jiggery pokery (possibly relating to FFP?). Get a player you want now, while leaving money in the budget for other transfers, then pay for him next season. Sure, it takes a chunk out of next season's budget, but hopefully by then you will have had a successful season, and have more money next year. Or have less pressing need for signings. Essentially, if they had the space in their budget they would have bought Augustin, realised they'd signed a dud and been stuck with him. Because they structured the deal to ease their financing as a loan-to-buy, it seems like a bad deal.

Loan with Right-to-Buy is commonplace yes, but 'have' to buy?
