Let's pop our little bubble here shall we.
Firstly, Leeds are a big club. Bigger than the Albion and history shows that.
Hopefully, Ben White will want to stay at the Albion and will have memories that last longer than one season at Leeds. However, if Leeds start splashing the cash and signing a few names he recognises then who can blame the young lad for wanting to be a part of that.
We asked him to go out on loan and prove himself. He has done that and more. We could be victims of that success and he might rather play for a world renown manager like Bielsa rather than an as yet to assert himself Potter.
If he goes, let's just get a bloody big fee for him.
Hopefully our recruitment team will do what's required to convince him - and his agent, who'll be looking at an immediate return - that Brighton is the place to be.
As has been said a few times, the only way this plays out is if Leeds convince Brighton to sell. Remember that they insisted that there was a loan to buy clause in the deal, which we refused and said he wouldn't be coming at all (because we knew he was good). Leeds had to back down as guess what, we held all the cards. At that time, Ben had 2 years on his contract and was just signing a 1 year extension. Fast forward one year and he has done brilliantly, Brighton still hold all the cards, but the only difference is that Ben is a lot more valuable and may well be keen to join Leeds.
How do you think this plays out? Of course there is a price that we would sell at, but seriously can't see Leeds paying that sort of money - whatever the number is. Leeds historic size and success has absolutely nothing to do with how successful they will be in this stint. Being 'big' in the past makes zero difference to the a club's chances of success. If, if they can manage to climb up the league, and have some consistent success, then perhaps those old fans will come back and they will be able to turn themselves into a top-6 commercial powerhouse. But again, that is to do with savvy club management and marketing, and not 'being big about 20 years ago'.
