If fit Owen should play. His England record speaks for itself. Defoe scored against Poland, but in the games leading up to that he had not looked all that and he has a habit of running into blind alley's and being very selfish.

I do not know how you can talk about dropping a player that has basically scored a goal every other game for his country. Defoe has had one good game for England big deal.

At the end of the day, similar things were said about Lineker when he was not a regular for Barca, but he never let England down.

Look at the last 4 games;

Portugal he scored
Ukraine he scored
Austria he got no service
Poland if the defender had not turned the ball in for the second Owen would have scored.

Not sure what more you want from a striker he is still causing problems.

Not sure if he did, but we were stuck in the corner of the ground and there was something about bombers going on for the second goal.

I just find it sad that people are getting on his back, because of what the media say, when here is a player that has rarely let England down.

I take your point Uncle Buck, it's the same with the current fashion for Leon Knight knocking, but I think that starting with a different striker is worth a go and isn't getting on Owen's back. Picking someone else ahead of him based on their form is a positive move not a negative one. I think Owen is far from over for England, he's way too good for that.

defoe, owen been on the bench for real madrid and he only gets to play twenty or ten minutes, and defoe being playing regular first team football with spurs and been playing amazing. Still a hard choice.
