With Owen not now playing regular club football, and Defoe playing a blinder for spurs, who would you pick to partner Rooney up front !!

I wouldn't say Defoe is playing a blinder for spurs, he's not scored since August I believe and only has 3 for the season. Owen still just about shades it due to his record at international level + the fact he has a point to prove to many people.

Owen, because he's a proven international goalscorer.

Actually though, I suppose that does raise a question; how can Defoe ever become a "proven international goalscorer" if he doesn't get a starting place when he is in the form of his life?

Hmm...

Its all about current form is'nt it ? Got to be Defoe.

If that was true Andy Johnston would be in the starting 11

I don't recall saying that so no. I would start with Defoe and have Owen on the bench.

I do not know how you can talk about dropping a player that has basically scored a goal every other game for his country. Defoe has had one good game for England big deal.

At the end of the day, similar things were said about Lineker when he was not a regular for Barca, but he never let England down.

The question was Defoe or Owen ? If it was Defoe or Johnston I would say Defoe is having the better season and is currently the better prospect. Notwithstanding his reputation and record for England, Owens current form at Club and International level is poor and Eriksson should be bold ebough to drop him as he should have done with Beckham over the summer.

Owens JUST ruled him self out

END OF POLL !!

Michael Owen has ruled himself out of England's World Cup qualifier with Wales on Saturday due to injury.

The Real Madrid star was called up to the squad despite sustaining a back injury in Real's defeat to Deportivo La Coruna last weekend.

Owen was forced off after 53 minutes having aggravated the old injury in the first half of the game.

The 24-year-old has now revealed that the complaint will keep him out of England's eagerly-anticipated clash with Wales at Old Trafford.

Owen told fans at a book signing in Chester that he would not be available for Saturday's showdown, but insisted he would be ready to play a part in the subsequent game in Azerbaijan next Wednesday.

The news will come as a big blow for England boss Sven Goran Eriksson, but means the Swede is almost certain to name Wayne Rooney and Jermain Defoe as his strike partnership against Wales
