Wouldn't it be great if in the 21st we could decriminalise drugs and prostitution. Deal a death blow to a large portion of organised crime and massively increase the tax take. Surely a win win

Sweden have had some good results by (after a period of decriminalising it) decriminalising selling sex but criminalising buying it. They have reports of less prostitution and lower sex trafficking figures.

Seems like a reasonable idea to me, though I can see it being one of those issues that some politicians will fight against so that they can claim they're some sort of moral guardian, despite very few people actually caring.

It's all in a sort of grey area now anyway isn't it? Might as well go all out. I took a disabled guy I do voluntary care work for to a prostitute last year, just off Preston Street. It was a bit dingy but it was all above board and the women were all pretty cool. It was fackin freezing outside so they let me sit in the kitchen and I was chatting with one of the girls whilst I waited. I've seen more disgruntled workers in most supermarkets tbh, I know it's anecdotal but it wasn't all eastern Europeans chained to the radiators or anything.

Anyway, think it's perfectly reasonable to suggest, but you just know people will start to 'care' and scream about moral values.

If a person of age agrees a contract to exchange sex for money then it is the business of no-one else. It should not be unlawful.

Whilst some women (and men) freely engage out of considered will (a friend of mine was a prostitute for many years) some find themselves in that situation because of disturbing backgrounds and unscrupulous characters.

Legalising prostitution and telling these people that they are not criminals is the first step to resolving many ills.

But prostitution per se is NOT illegal in the UK. Where the law is batsh@t bananas is that it makes two prostitutes working / living together into 'a brothel' which IS illegal. This is crazy and means that they can't band together to look after each other, which it's argued leads to more physical attacks on solo working girls or they have to seek the 'protection' of a pimp, who is often a usive and mixed up in other stuff like drugs. The law today is stupid.
In practice in a lot of places (I suspect Brighton being one of them?) the police only visit 'respectable' brothels to check that the workers are ok, of age and not under duress or trafficked; so the boundaries of what is 'criminalised' are inconsistent, and liable to change very quickly due to local political pressures, change in local police leadership etc etc.
Currently the law is nuts. Corbyn is right to raise the issue, and we should have a debate; Should it be completely illegal? If yes, then there's a really big job for someone to stamp it out and we're gonna need a lot more coppers, judges and jail cells - although today I believe the main sanction for prostitution-related offences is a fine...more batsh@ttery given prostitutes generally wouldn't be in the game if they could afford not to be...so a fine means that the 'criminal' will have to go back to working at the thing that were fined for doing in the first place.
If we come up with the sensible answer that it shouldn't be illegal, then some sensible people need to sit down and work out some arrangements that protect the health and well-being of all 'honest' parties, but also to absolutely stamp out trafficking, abuse and abuse-based pimping.

Legalise and license it...with the industry paying for the administration/running ..making sure the business is run on certain guidelines with rights and protection for workers. Anyone running such a business without a license is then fined/charged whatever

It works here. Pretty much every city has a Red Light District (obviously the most famous being Amsterdam). My city of The Hague incredibly has 3, but there isn't much crime around these areas as the police and the girls work together to ensure safety. I think if it was to become legal in the UK, it would need to be controlled and managed in the same way it is in The Netherlands.
