Debt collector robbed in Moulsecoomb From The Argus)

A bailiff was robbed moments after collecting a debt.

The 62-year-old debt collector was in Ringmer Drive, Moulsecoomb, Brighton, at about 6pm on Monday having just visited an address in the area when he was attacked by three men.

The men, who wore hoods and scarves over their faces, bundled the bailiff to the ground and took £524 from him.

His attackers ran off leaving the victim shocked but unhurt.

Sussex Police is appealing for witnesses who may have seen the attack or the three men fleeing the scene.

Not being funny but who exactly is going to own up to the old bill if they've seen it? Now they know the guy was a bailiff any sympathy they may have had will be long gone. This is Moulsecoomb after all.

It's like asking for people to come forward having seen a Traffic Warden get abused.

I can see your point but the bloke was just doing his job, he's not the bad guy it's the people who employ him.

I'm not saying he is the bad guy, but it's not likely to tug at the heart strings is it?

Why are the people who employ him the "bad guys" ?
They just want what they're owed.

Yes, I agree. However there's those who are in debt thanks to unfortunate circumstances and there are those who just don't care about paying.

Facist.

If the good people of Scoomb want to watch Sky HD, on a 60" flatscreen, sitting comfy on a nice SCS sofa, why should they be obliged to eventually PAY for it?

How does a firm/individual differentiate? There is always a way around getting a bailiff in.

On that note, I have been threatened with bailiffs, despite the fact that I have paid 95% of what is owed. Apparently the large Water firm have not 'received' the payment, despite my bank statements saying otherwise. Tsk.

To a point. But bailiffs are a last resort reserved for the cheeky little monkeys who don't even ATTEMPT to come to an arrangement with their creditors. Nobody wants the time, hassle and expense of going and getting court orders to send bailiffs round on the offchance of salvaging something from the premises.

Facist.

Fair point. Can't expect them to pass up the chance of seeing their mates on Trisha or Jeremy Kyle, all in glorious HD. Keeps em' off the streets dunnit.

This is untrue as they would have seen the sea from a distance on the 49 bus whilst out on a shoplifting expedition to Churchill Square.

Too right.

I'm from Scoomb too. I work hard, have travelled widely, ran my own company for a bit and now work to support my family. There are hundreds of people from the estate like that - there are plenty of worse places than Moulsecoomb.

and many from the estate are also very lazy and couldn't give a stuff about getting a job.

Don't get me wrong there are people who work hard, but the area doesn't get a bad reputation for nothing...

I bet anyone the muggers knew exactly how much cash the baliff would be carrying. I also bet the debtor saw some of that money back.
