100% agree - this is the crux of it. Belgium possibly have a better starting XI but don't have the strength in depth England do.

I know I'm in the minority on here, but after World Cup 2018 I've got a huge amount of time for Gareth Southgate. I'm just as frustrated that Dunk hasn't made it into the England team permanently, but I don't believe Southgate has an agenda against us. He called Dunk up once - who knows what happened during that spell? Perhaps Dunk didn't impress him the way we'd hope? Or perhaps it's just that he and Albion have stagnated in terms of progress (despite the improvement in playing style)? I love Dunky but I personally don't believe Dunk is any better than he was two years ago - or put it another way, he doesn't catch the eye any more than he did under CH.

For those who think White may have got a call up for the squad if he had been playing for Leeds this year - possibly, yes, but then again Leeds are comfortably mid-table and White, as a utility player, hasn't particularly been getting 8s on the player ratings thread every week, has he? I'm not sure many would really mourn him being transferred over the summer either. We are 16th. When Southgate chose this team, we were flirting with 18th. The only player out there tonight even close to our league position is Pope for Burnley. The rest are in teams comfortably mid-table or higher. Despite fits and starts, we've been a 16th place sort of team for 4 years now.

That may well be, but I doubt Belgium would be struggling against this Polish outfit we’re playing. We get far too carried away with England players.

No because Trossard is not as good a player as Mount, Sterling, Foden, Rashford or others competing with him for that spot

What about Ollie Watkins, Prowse or Jude Bellingham?

Premier League goals 2020/21

Watkins - 10
Ward-Prowse - 7
Trossard - 4

Bellingham is clearly in there as a youngster and wouldn’t be in the Euros squad were that announced tomorrow

And all play different positions to Trossard.

I know, I wasn’t the one who bought them up. As I referenced in my earlier post Trossard is not as good as those he is in direct competition with (Mount, Foden, Rashford, Sterling etc.). IMHO it would be a choice between Lingard and Trossard for this squad with injuries to the likes of Maddison and on current form you’d go for Lingard.

When Leo owns our attacking third (goals & assists) he can become a permanent fixture for the world’s no.1 ranked team - that’s his target (and Southgate’d still pick Lingard ahead of him).

Yeah wasn’t aimed at you as such - just a general comment. They were a strange selection of players to put up against Trossard. Totally agree on the rest of your post here.

I don't believe Southgate has an agenda against us.

No agenda, just no interest in watching any of our players. Four seasons into our Premier League adventure and he is still yet to visit the Amex. He has favourites. He went to watch both Villa and Leeds when they were in the Championship. Kalvin Phillips is a Liam Bridcutt player: outstanding in one particular set up, playing one specific role for one manager. Outside of that set up, he is decidedly average. Southgate called him up in August 2020 and he played for England before playing a single minute of Premier League football. He hasn't played in the role that Bielsa uses him in. Subsequently, he hasn't once looked worth a place. He hasn't missed a squad that he has been available for.

Southgate has visited Burnley, he visited Bournemouth, he went to Huddersfield, not when they were playing one of the top six, but to watch them against Bournemouth! Dan Ashworth was reported to be a close ally of Southgate's at the FA, he's been here for three years. Southgate still hasn't bothered visiting the Amex. He won't be coming.

Ben White should be in the England squad now, he won’t get picked whilst here, if he moves to Liverpool then he’ll be in the very next squad, guaranteed. That is the main reason why I want Southgate to fick off.

I don't think he would - we have plenty of depth at Trossard's position.

After Stones' brain fart I would hope Southgate is looking at our centre half trio though.

Hang on, folks. Give Trossard a couple or even one bad game, which we all know will happen with him, and threads will appear saying drop, get rid, waste of money etc.

There isn't a single player in the Albion side that GS would pick if they were English because they play for us. Bissouma wouldn't even get a look in, which is mental.
