lol! Spot of casual racism, ageism AND sexism there!

We were in the Caribbean in February and went on the Death in Paradise Tour in… god, you lose track… Guadeloupe, I think? I’ve never seen the show but my wife is keen. Quite good fun. We had lunch in some celebrated bar, apparently, and were taken round many of the well-known spots like the bloke's place on the beach and various murder locations. Certainly a very beautiful island though personally I’d find living and working in a featureless beach environment for several months a bit dull after a while. I’m more of an urban type.
It would be, only that the poster had already identified themselves as an 'old man' and we know he's white.

Apart from that, spot on :lolol:

If I were an actor, Death in Paradise would be a job I would never leave. 3 months a year filming in the Caribbean with (hopefully) Camille and Florence to keep me company
Sure I read an interview with Ardol O'Gurgle or whoever he is, he said its great fun if you are a guest star for an episode but gruelling if you are regular cast including the temp Detective.

Bit of a racist undertone to the OP no? Do we just accept casual racism now?
Wow. Hey man, let’s throw the racist card about. Just out of curiosity could you define racism and specify what part of the OP was racist?

I’m sure the moderators can identify racism, or are you suggesting by throwing that card about that they too are racist.

I bet you’re looking foward to playing card’s tomorrow. Will it be the old homophobic one or the racist card again. Go shuffle your pack.

I think it's this piece, specifically:

"the BBC have now replaced him with an actor of colour, ex Eastenders serial killer Don Gilet, in the lead, which almost defeats the whole premise of the series, a white copper fish out of water"

Personally, I don't think it was meant as a racial comment, merely that the format so far has meant that part of the "fish out of water" schtick is that the policeman has always been white. That said, there has been a lot of racially-driven backlash online because the new chap isn't white, so it's not a massive leap to get there.

Anyway, I really enjoyed the episode. Those he was a good fit and brought something a little different and it left us looking forward to the next series. I always found Ralph Little and his weirdly jet-black hair to be wooden as hell, so should be it's usual harmless fun.

I love it but when will somebody remember that he killed his wife and went to prison?
Did he escape?
How did he get to London and train to be a copper?
Does nobody remember Mama Beth?
😂😂

No, it's this bit:
But it’s was really good, so don’t worry about more apparent subliminal box ticking from the Beeb, if you’ve got a spare 90 minutes and want some quality entertainment it’s on BBC Iplayer.
The idea that a non-white actor can only get a role because of "box ticking" is unquestionably a racist one.

Having read the many comments on here about racist stuff I was expecting the worse. But Gilet fits in perfectly. A Londoner who is used to fast living in a very loud atmosphere so when he is placed in a laid back quiet island it's just not his scene. Perfect script writing.
