The thing with an academy is that its not a quick fix, it takes years to gain the trust of Parents and young players that their career is best served at "Club a" and it also takes time for the coaches to show that they know what they are doing, we are lucky that ours seems to be a well run one, but it has been going for well ever since the "team of the 80's" (how did that turn out for us!!) it will take at least 5-10 years to really reap the benefits of it, its no quick fix
The thing is, we have done it differently. We take in players from other academies to give them a second chance. When we say two coming through a year, for the first few years it will be this way. The other player that would most probably be classed as coming through will either be Monakana, or Dickinson.

Palace do that as well! its not exclusively kids from the age of 8 from the local area being bought through, thats how it works, Chelsea's cast off are our gain (hopefully) you cany rely on the academy to keep bring players through, especially if you get to the promised land of the PL, we have seen that! and it sucks, Williams a prime example

The Albion are so lucky to get all this unsolicited advice from the one team who really know how to run an academy.

When do you get to resit the exams?

Funny that chelseas cast offs are our gain aswell:drink:. Our aim is to bring 2 through a year, therefore if we do that I will see our academy as a success.

1 very good reason, not everything is on the same site!
although we are going for Cat 1 again this year as we now own the training ground and are addressing the issues, you are building a new site, what Cat do you have?

Rescue one from Raystede, why is this relevant?

Same as you, cat 2. but when the time is right we are going for a cat 1. Make no mistake we are making our academy an important part of the club, and Bloom will have a strategy that will help it make it one of the best.

Which presumably entails throwing money at it and seeing what happens, much like everything else?

We are applying for Category 1 as soon as the training ground opens. It will be one of the best facilities in Europe.

It isn't just the improvement in our development squad/academy squad, the new training facility should help get an extra few percent out of our first team players, help with recovery from playing, reducing the amount of injuries and getting injured players back quicker. It is a massive leap from where we are at the moment, similar in scope to moving from Withdean to The Amex.

It really could make a big difference, plus it is a great selling point to new players and managers.

I thought we were discussing the Academy here, or do you just want to score cheap points, as per usual.

The last two posts by andy1980 claim that Bloom definitely has a strategy to make the academy elite, and bases this on a policy of paying for quality. Therefore the points I made have direct relevance, and the only cheap points scoring appears to be by the ever sensitive and churlish Hillian, again.

I believe that the plan changed, and we are now going for Category 1 at the first grading assessment.
