Nicolas has only played on the flank twice this entire season, and only one of those times for about 20 minutes a few months ago. He started in what you say is his best position against Wigan on Tuesday. Did you think he played well?

I'll take your word for that. It seems like more in my addled memory. I thought Nicolas was poor on Tuesday; probably equally as poor as Charlie. If Hammond's going to come in, one's going to have to drop out, unless you go 3-5-2 - it's a tough choice, certainly. Incidently, I thought it was a rather odd decision to take Nicolas off against Plymouth, he looked the best of a bad bunch in the midfield for me.

Toad, I think it indicates McGhee's opinion about who is putting in the real, effective work for the team. Nicolas is a fine player with bags of effort but, when in possession, he abdicates responsibility too much with the back or the square pass. That's why out of a whole season of games, it's hard to think of a prominent part he's played in any of our goals. By contrast, Charlie is always looking to play the ball forward and bringing our forward players into the game.

If was a striker, I know who I'd want if it came down to a choice.

But it may not, it may depend which of Hammond or Nicolas is showing up better in training at the moment.

The problem is against Wigan or more than one occasion when Oatway tried to play it forward it went straight to a Wigan player. Now Oatway has surprised me as too how well he has done this season, but the last couple of games he has at best looked pedestrian.

However do not worry as he is captain he will not get dropped.

Anyway why are you not out celebrating tonight?
