Deal Or No Deal

A cynic might say it was fixed.

With 3,000 and 250,000 left an offer of 45,000 was really low and was probably designed to get her to go on. I would have thought that offer should have been around 100k then she probably would have taken it.

And secondly as soon as her box was opened ticker-tape streamed down from the roof. Have they had it up there for over a year so they were ready when someone did win it?

Maybe it was fixed, maybe it wasn't. Personally I doubt it. But the programme makers must be delighted, OK it's cost them 250 grand but its worth loads more in publicity. Also a good contestant to have won, from their point of view. She's media friendly.

Isn't that the whole point ? To identify how much risk someone is willing to take of 'losing' a large sum of cash - in this case £42000. There aren't many people that would gamble £42000 on a one-off 50-50 chance, are there ?

If you were certain of a decent sum of cash anyway, say £50K against £250K, they would have to up the offer considerably, because more people would take that chance.

I'd say it was a well-judged offer - and I would have been inclined to take it.

no way was she going to take £45K based on her decisions up to that point... it was a calculatedly derisory offer - would have been a more interesting decision if offer had been made a bit higher
