The reason that family members are always there is that the show pays for food and accomodation for the contestant + a guest for the entire duration of their stay.
The show is filmed several weeks in advance in Bristol - her shows were filmed at the end of March/ begging of April and they are only being shown now. They do 3 shows in a day so contestants are not there as long as it appears.
The only thing that is fixed is that they chose when a contestant plays. This is so that they can keep good contestants on the show longer and also chose which days that they play (e.g get the most colourful contestants to play on the Saturday Show).
The selection of contestants is also not random. My Girlfreinds sister did not apply she was invited to audition by an agency. all potential contestants have to audition for a place.
If you can get on the show the whole experience is pretty good. My Girlfriend attended for a few days and she said that they really lay on the hospitality. They also encorage all the contestants to socialise when they are not filming which is why there is often quite an obvious bond between the contestants.

Although the 22 boxes used are normally red, there have been four occasions when they were changed to a different colour, depending on the annual festivity that occurred at the time the show aired. Firstly they were changed to dark green on St. Patrick's Day, Friday 17th March 2006. On Saturday 25th March 2006, the day before Mothering Sunday, the boxes were pink. Finally, they were yellow on Holy Saturday, 15th April 2006 and Easter Monday, 17th April 2006. The boxes were also changed to suit festivities over the Christmas 2005 period, when they were given ribbons and bows to make them look like Christmas presents, and on Valentine's Day (February 14th) the boxes had hearts on them. On the day of Eurovision, 20th May 2006, the boxes were changed to gold and the 22 players were dressed as singers from the Eurovision. It also offered the largest phone in prize of £30,000, which was not won.
In an episode broadcast on Saturday, 29th April 2006, Tom, one of the contestants, dropped box 4 onto the floor. Unfortunately, the seal came off and the box landed with its lid face up. At this point, the show was briefly interrupted in order to shuffle the boxes and redistribute them accordingly. The viewers were just able to see a red value ending in three zeroes. The exact value was not revealed as when the show was filmed, it was understood that the incident would be edited out, which it wasn't.

Shes 10 years older than Becca but they often get mistaken for each other - so yes, I am a happy man!
Becca plays on the 8th of June by the way.

Her family live near Eastbourne and no shes not a Brighton Fan, I dont think she is interested in Football. I am working on converting her sister though!

Nessie who is currently in the show lives in/near Worthing. Met her the other week at a birthday party for a friend but she wouldn't tell anyone how much she won.
HTP's comments about the contestants bond reflects what she said. Our friend who went with her for a few days said it was great experience.
She also mentioned an unwritten agreement that the contestants have that if anyone goes away with less than a grand, all the others (including players guests) chip in some cash - a tenner I think.
Finally, for those who previously said about players having their pictures etc with them, there is a break between the player being selected and them taking the walk. This allows them to be fitted with a microphone (they don't have a radio mic at the start) and to collect their pics, mascots, etc.

But DOND does cause conflict in my house as my wife gets to watch it on C4 before i get home so doesnt want to watch it again later on more4

Damn. We were short changed. A friend of ours was on in January and they didn't pay for a guest, we had to pay for ourselves. And there was no bond in that group. There had been two drunken incidents one of which involved a contestent being sent packing before she even got to be on TV. LOL
It is the most boring thing in the world to be there in person though. A real snooze fest.
