He had two years left on his contract - there was no need to sign a new one. At the time of it being offered, Barber's unofficial mouthpiece Alex Crook, said it would include a significant release clause - that would have made it harder for him to leave when the time came.
Bit of a redundant comment afaic - I was saying that for months.

But the fact they wanted to renew his contract, lends credence to my point that he wasn’t sacked (but they may have suspected he was thinking of going as early as January). RDZ already had a significant release clause of £12.8m.
Potter had a £16m release clause (£21m inc his staff) - it didn’t make it harder for him and his team to drop tools and walk out with 24 hrs notice.

Every club tries to get players and coaches to renew their contract if there’s a possibility they will leave early. RDZ was clearly wanting the same level of skill in his squad as he had in 2022/3. He didn’t have that. It was compounded by injury and not responding to that in the January window.

RDZ would have to had signed a new contract by this time next year - if the Club couldn’t get assurances for that then it makes our succession planning difficult.

It was mutual.

I'm fed up with all these vague predictions like "he'll do well there" and "it's a done deal".

Adam Webster will score an own goal against Wolves on 19th October. In the 21st minute. You heard it here first.
I wonder if it is an English thing, this business of people imagining what they want, then deciding it has happened?

I find it rather queer.

Anyway, FA cup final starts soon. City have won it. Definitely.

I’d be gutted if RDZ goes to Chelsea, he will get a tune out of them and they will be challenging next season.
The decision to say goodbye to him just gets dafter by the day
Would it have been better to kick the can down the road for a few weeks until he kicks up a stink and we have to let him go anyway?

Yep

RDZ was sacked and is going to Chelsea. Potter doesn’t have a job yet so he’s coming here.

20 threads and 1,000s of words could have been summed up in 2 sentences :lolol:

I predict extra time - definitely 😎

If he does go to Chelsea then I expect we’ll pick up a reasonable compensation payment off them as per the clause in his contract. Reported c £5m. Not to be sniffed at.
Good to get anything. I think the fact we managed to keep a clause in the contract to get a payout from his next club suggests it was primarily RDZ that wanted out. Otherwise, surely we’d be owing him money to pay up at least a large chunk of the remainder of his contract.

Worth bearing in mind when there’s a meltdown about us ‘getting rid’ of him if we have a tricky season.

I’ve said on another thread, unfortunately I think it’s a good time to take on Chelsea. Key signings have settled (like Caicedo), injured players to return (Nkunku, James) and some real talents (Palmer). RDZ would do really well there. Annoying.
We had Ferguson looking dangerous, the envy of the 'big' teams. Then he started to look terrible with De Zerbi ball.

Veltman’s none to happy about the situation.

In what way? He never seemed (to me) to be an RDZ favourite 🤔

Sure RDZ played Milner at RB at the start of the season. And Veltman didn't even put a goodbye up on his Instagram like some others - not that that means anything, but I just wouldn't have imagined him to be the one kicking up a fuss.

It's hard to disagree with this.

Actually it a piece of piss to disagree with this. You don’t just nip down to ‘players-r-us’ and pick someone up. There was very little available in the January window so all our work is going to be in the summer. Managers are like kids, they always want more ….

It begs the question - how would Pep do at the Albion, better or worse than RDZ. I struggle to call it seeing as Pep has always worked with elite players
Funnily enough, I was thinking the other day that football would be fun with a draft system for managers. Pep in charge of Luton and someone like Chris Wilder running City. I’m sure Guardiola would still surpass expectations but wouldn’t mind betting Wilder would do alright too.

He said the players knew this season was tough due to injuries they were all looking forward and talked about a strong next season under Roberto. He was shocked & upset the players found out the way we did.
We know that RDZ took training and then gathered the players to ensure he was able to tell them first so they knew before we did.
