Worthing
Very surprised he went Undav rather than Gilmour and Buannotte rather than either March or Enciso. Odd call.
Yes, though to be fair he’s got most things right so far…..

Re Undav, out of an extremely poor bunch in the first half I felt he was trying to create space, what the feck Welbeck was on I don’t know.

Buononotte has looked out of his depth so far, and did again. Doesn’t mean he’s not a reasonable player or anything like that, just needs a bit more time.

Substitutions did well, just gutted for Solly…..

He gave the ball away as often as anyone - as bad as Undav in that regard. Absolutely shocking performance from him (and about 4 others).

(Friendly request), which other 4?

I’d add Dunk, Webster, Estupinan and flattered to deceive Mitoma (repeated high crosses to a 6 yard box rammed with giants).

Wouldn’t have started Undav or Buannonotte. Or maybe Welbeck. Some or all of Enciso, March, Ferguson, and Gilmour should have been involved from the start. & it was pretty obvious how Everton would set up… crowd the midfield, low block when needing to defend, and lots of counter attacking football. So for that reason I would have made it clear to the players that there will be times when we need to mix it up. Go long sometimes, put crosses in, play to the wingers. & not just rely on our quick passing through the midfield as that will be difficult to do & they’ll be ready to pounce on. But hey, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Exactly.

Gutted we weren't prepared for Everton's tactics. Blindingly obvious they would really sit in. We didn't need to force it and leave ourselves over exposed time and time again. We must have known this was coming but we strolled in and played Undav and Buonotte when maybe we should have them against a team we're less likely to get points off. Terribly poor from the coaching staff and the players lacked leadership on the pitch. That result wouldn't have happened with lalanna and/or Milner on the pitch. Take your time lads.

Playing Welbeck in the Attacking midfield role does t work either as passing is probably his weakest attribute.
He actually played that role fantastically v Wolves but they were clearly on the beach and he really should be leading the line. Their centre backs will never have an easier afternoon than they had in that first half today.

The strikers giving the ball away is not really the issue, the problem was we weren't winning it back quickly. Normally we're one of the best in the league at regaining possession, but that requires bodies in midfield and today with Welbeck, Undav and Buonanotte sitting ineffectually upfield we didn't have the usual numbers there to overwhelm our opponents. And so that happened.

To be honest I've been expecting that kind of result for a while now, considering how open to the counter attack we are.

The biggest problem today was picking up runners and marking the correct players. They had players arriving into the box completely unmarked or drifting into space completely un noticed. We will never win football matches if we are that undisciplined.
