Yep I had a car with a small crack in the windscreen. I didn't fancy the risk of having it repaired so I poured boiling water over it. Result was a crack fom top to bottom.
Cost me the insurance excess, but I got a new windscreen.

What is the risk of having it repaired? If a chip is repairable (ie. small enough and not in the drivers sight line), it is normally done free of any excess and covered under your insurance (if you have windscreen cover).

As for the water de icing method, have used it for years with no problem. Added advantge is that it also demists the interior of the windscreen.

Do any of you suffer the dreaded ice on the inside of the windscreen or is it just me? How the heck do you deal with that!

Me too, I can also confirm it exists for breakfast newsreaders. Although I don't really have to put much effort in with the windscreen, it's heated so a few minutes of that does the trick.

I highly recommend a sure-fire certain remedy, that will absolutely end any problems with iced-up windscreens or frost issues;

move to a warm climate, where there is no ice or frost in the morning.

It works, and you have not been charged for ....etc.

or if you are unable to do that for whatever reason, try parking the car inside your garage. That works a treat.

The only problem with this method is of course clearing out the years of accumulated junk first:down:

Your soft.
Motoring in the Fifty's.
First dig the car out of the snow drift.
Fill up radiator etc. with water. ( you had drained it the night before because I don't think antifreeze existed.)
Disconnect lights from battery. ( cars parked in the street had to show lights)
Then if the battery had enough left in it start the car.If not swing the starting handle. That warmed you up.
Drive away.
This was my Dad in West Blatchington, not Siberia.
Oh I forgot scape the windscreen. All this before Global Warming.

My stepmother had a Morris Minor which never liked the cold weather , the only way to get it started in the winter was to crank the starting handle which is very knackering.

Open garage door,
reverse car out,
close garage door,
drive off.

No de-icing needed.

I swear no one uses garages anymore. On my street everyone has a garage but all the cars are parked on the street! Crazy or what?

Can confirm that this does indeed work. Except when its cold. :dunce:
